How long does it take to count the votes here - making a laughing stock of Northern Ireland

Blame the politicians, up to them to change the system. They were offered a demonstration of electronic voting systems and hardly any of them turned up.
  • Right !! Voting's over.... now can all those lovely activists that went out and put up all those big poster/placards etc please get your asses back out now and take them down.... they are unsightly........ and please take the big obscene cable ties off the lamp posts too rather than just leaving them there... :D ....

PR. We have it, England doesn't. That's why.

Well, this is the line the bel tel used, ignoring the fact we have pr and England hasn't. To give the matter one minute's thought would have steered dangerously close to actual journalism, and we can't have that in the bel tel.

Actually, Engalnd and all EU countries do have PR for European Elections - it is just a different type, these use party lists, whereas NI uses Single Transferable vote and so does Malta and Republic of Ireland.

Malta have 6 MEPs and seem to have had 29 counts, there count appears to only have ended this morning - however their election was on Saturday - ours was on Thursday.

Republic of Ireland - with 11 MEP's and a much bigger population count ended last night (however has now gone for a recount).

We need to start counting on a Sunday

Don't know about Malta but AFAIK RoI started their count on Saturday.
