Why are people trying to tar all NI21 candidates with Basil? They are not all clones. (Well I know the likely answer)

In the Council elections I would be inclined to vote for a person rather than a party. If the party falls apart, then possibly we have more independents. No bad thing IMO.

It's difficult to vote for a party that

    1. Has a leader who is described as a bully and and an 'octopus.' Who is a proven troublemaker and one of whom his ex party were all but too happy to get rid off.

    2. The deputy leader of the said party has described it as dysfunctional.

    3. Policy maker has just resigned from.

    4. Had a candidate until recently described his politics to the right of Hitler and there are many more zany ones there. Reports of NI21 candidates canvassing outside of their boundry lines and completely split as to how to designate the party.

    5. Is suffering a power struggle internally.

    6. Most candidates are inexperienced and beyond offering a new beginning have no idea how to go from here.

    7. Secret snipes at each other on Social media by party members.

I could go on but suffice to say they're not worth a vote.

I agree. From my own personal experience when growing up as a "protestant" in a very nationalist area in the 80's, the local Sinn Fein councillors would always be SIGNIFICANTLY more helpful than any of the Unionist Councillors........ was always the case..... Personally I've never voted for them but then I've not always resided here.......... I wouldn't rule out voting for anyone though if I thought they were the best candidate (i.e. had some morals and a bit of get up and go !!)

That's always been the way Unionists will go out of their way to help Catholic constituents and Nationalists will go out of their way to help Protestant constituents.

Interesting that despite their help you wouldn't vote for them.

Only a man could say that, you may like a little office 'slap and tickle' but I find it nothing short of sexual harrassment.

Whilst I disagree with ALDA's sentiments, I don't think he was endorsing candidates who get up to that sort of behaviour, from what he said was that out of such a wide array there are bound to be a small number of candidates worth voting for.

So vote for the gropers and power crazed as they're less sectarian than the rest??

So because of the alleged wrong doings of one person you brand them all including the female candidates. :T

As I said I take each individual on their merits. To go party first seems odd to me. I could like a parties policies, but think the local candidate an utter waster or conversely think that someone is doing a really good job but have doubts about some of his policies.

We seem to treat each election here as a border poll, and (IMO) as a result elect a fair few people who are just dead wood. The election has nothing to do with the border that will be held some time off.

Having a dirty only man as the leader of a party should be enough to turn anyone off, especially when he presents himself as purity personified.

Your second arguement holds little water, if Sinn Fein are returned in larger numbers than before it will give them a bigger mandate to remove symbols of Britishness and further stamp their authority. Such behaviour would likely be supported up by Alliance and NI21 as they would deem it to be what the electorate voted for.

It's hard to know what the DUP would do with a bigger mandate but they do represent for some a line in the sand.

I think you do protest too much! Calling one party dysfunctional in a NI context seems more than a little odd.

I have nothing whatsoever to do with NI21, Some ideas fine, but hard to get excited about.
