A generational thing or was I just odd?

I grew up in the 90s/early 2000s and my parents helped me with my homework quite a lot, although I think I did a lot of it myself (I seem to remember doing quite a bit in the morning before school started), but if I was organised they would always help (although sometimes to the extent I got annoyed).
I think a lot of my friends do get help with weddings and house deposits. My dad has made it very clear he is not paying for my wedding (no wedding planned -he made this clear when I was single), and I don't think I will get much in the way of help with a deposit - have siblings so issues with fairness. I think my mum probably would loan me some money if I asked though. I got money for food/accommodation when I was at uni though.
I'm not sure whether it is a generational thing - I think it probably varies from family to family. Certainly does for my peers. When I was at school I always used to feel slightly jealous of the sort of presents that people (computers, money) got that we never got. I expect it also makes a big difference whether or not your parents have money in the first place?0
