I know £84 is quite a lot, even for both of us, but around here you have the choice of 2 grim council run gyms with massive queues for all the machines, 2 really rough gyms full of scumbags leaning on machines with their hands down their pants and making derogatory comments to all the women, 1 where all the steroid-heads hang out, and 1 country club which is more expensive. And ours includes free personal training sessions, is open 6am to 10pm, and has great health and safety standards.
Welcome aboard. Can I put my two penneth in. If you only have 40 days to lose half a stone or more (perfectly doable) I would, for now, ditch the squat and ab challenges, get to the gym and run like the wind on the treadmill, that coupled with your calorie counting will shed that weight easily. If you get free personal training sessions I would make full use of those, book yourself a couple and tell them your goal and they will push you harder than you can do on your own. Good Luck.

Yesterday was my rest day, I did go out on my bike but it was with DD so it was just a gentle ride at her pace.
Today me and DH will cycle properly, it will be hard as it is already very warm here again, yesterday it got to 28 degrees.
Todays menu
B/Fast - hm porridge with trail mix.
Lunch - hm spicy lentil soup, fruit and yoghurt.
Tea - hm pizza (Friday is pizza night normally but has been swapped this week).
Snacks - squash, fruit and 1/2 a bounty (I know how to live:rotfl:).Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler

Thanks for the welcome, everyone.
And Dolly, thank you for the advice.
The fact is, I LOATHE the gym. Hate every second of the time I'm in there, don't feel particularly good when I leave. I never understand when I hear people talk about getting a "high" from exercise, or when my OH gets up in the morning and can't wait to get to the gym.
I'm not terribly overweight, but I am terribly unfit. I've downloaded the Couch to 5k thingamajig and plan to start that tomorrow at the gym. But I'm also as weak as a kitten, and I had surgery last November in which my stomach muscles were cut, so I want to work on getting them back, hence the Abs challenge etc.
Today, I have done day 5 of the Abs & Squat Challenge, day 2 of the Crunch Challenge, and day 1 of the Little Black Dress Challenge, so all should be complete before I go away. I've also walked both dogs, but because of Mr waiting for his operation, that's a very gentle potter. Still, better than sitting on my behind!
I had a sneaky weigh in this morning, and have lost another 3lbs.That makes 8lbs in total from when I started a few weeks ago, and if I can lose another 7 between now and my holiday I will be very happy indeed.

HIIT is the way to get the weight off. ,Burpees, jumping squats, press ups, tuck jumps, mountain climbers etc
20 seconds on and 10 off for 15 mins would give you a decent workout
I cant say I love the gym, but I enjoy exercise. If you are focused, it helps, if you have a gym membership and can get access to a gym instructor who can do a programme for you that is regularly reviewed you will have goals to aim for.
I think people get bored when they go in, see all these free weights and machines and possibly dont know the combinations to get the best workout.
HIIT is short, sharp, will bring your fitness up very quickly. Id also consider using a kettlebell as part of your workout.
Im sure you're gym will have a timetable of classes, Id book into a few until you find a couple you like.0 -
Well Done Aggypanthus  & welcome aboard Treacle Toes & Misty.
Really enjoyed Circuit last night, was in a bit of a crabby mood and it seemed to get it out of my system, im off for a flounder in the pool at 7am and hit the steam& sauna, should be able to get back before everyone is out of bed, I love them all dearly but find im craving a bit of alone time which has been a bit thin on the ground lately
I also have to tackle some housework, between work and the added gym time I have to find a better routine with that.
Have a great day everyone
Swim and sauna/ steam sounds lovely. What great opening hours your pool has, my doesn't open that early sadly. Hope you enjoyed your 'me time'0 -
Hi all
I've been to the gym and burned off 302 calories. Coincidently I've just scanned a bottle of wine and half the bottle is also 302 calories, so I'll drink them back later
B porridge, cup of tea, omega 3 capsule - 159 cals
L half an avocado, cottage cheese, cherry tomatoes, cup of tea - 290 cals
T going to try and make a cauliflower based pizza - not sure on cals yet
S vino! - 302 cals0 -
It was Prudent
thank you, facility is open from 7am but close at 8pm which can be a pain for those of us working as we all tend to rack up at the same time.
Was planning on taking a day off tomorrow as DH had a taxi run to London today, but the youngest would like to do a session in the gym and has to have a over 18 gym buddy so bang goes the lie-in, I usually do spinning on Sundays anyway so will just use the gym bike and spin by myself for an hour.
i've been a bit OTT with food today, made some Fudgy Avocado Brownies (The iron You) they are seriously good, i've been so impressed by all the recipes i've made so far. hit the cheese a little too hard also. im expecting a gain on Monday as I always do 4th week regardless, but don't think the cake and brownies this week will help0 -
I completed all my challenge exercises today, and walked the dogs for 20 / 25 minutes. The aerobic stuff in the Little Black Dress Challenge was pretty hard for me - on day 2! That's shameful.
Calories and carbs were under yesterday. Brownies sounds lovely. Just googled The Iron you, thank you
I am feeling very happy this morning as I have finally managed to get the flexibility to do an exercise I have been trying for 2 weeks. I have done my exercises and been for a long walk this morning. Other than my back exercises, I didn't do any dedicated exercise yesterday as I was learning some forest skills which was a lot of fun. I got home about 6.30 pm and was in bed my 7.30 pm, sleeping right through to 8.30 am:eek: I must have burnt off some energy without realising it.
I am getting into a better pattern with food thankfully.
Today I am having:
Breakfast: smoothie- melon, loads of spinach, cucumber, kiwi, tangerine, hemp seeds & chia seeds
Lunch: homemade soup - kale, brocolli, lentils, carrots, parsely & courgettes.
late afternoon smoothie: Kale, berries, banana, almond milk & a tablespoon of oats.
Dinner: not decided yet but fish with something.0 -
Hi all.
I have been for my run today but it was very hot and not enjoyable. I also did 900 skips when I got back. Yesterday me and DH cycled 10 miles.
I will be taking my foot off the gas pedal for the 6 week holidays due to having the kids full time, it will be nice to ease up a bit before my final push through to winter, I'll still do plenty but will drop a few sessions.
Today's food
B/F - porridge with 1/2 milk, 1/2 water, golden syrup
Lunch - 3 slices of bread, bacon, fruit & yoghurt
Tea - pulled pork, salad, jacket potato, melon.
Snacks - squash, nectarine.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler
