credit-crunched - I totally disagree with you. Long distance runners bodies are used to the level of training and they won't lose weight if they eat well. For the rest of us just doing 5-10k distances it is a fantastic and unrivaled way to lose weight. I started running again in April this year, I was overweight and it was hard work but the fat melted away and running combined with cycling and lots of walking has seen me lose 4 stones 8lb since mid January.

Did I post about my bike ride? I can't remember as it has taken till today to get over it and it was on Saturday. It was supposed to be 37 miles but ended up considerably longer due to getting lost in the middle of blooming nowhere. We are still feeling rather smug as we did quite a lot of the Tour route including Englands' longest continuous ascent which is 5.5 miles uphill.

After 4.5 hours on a bike I came home had a tiny rest then did a T25 workout (don't ask), Sunday I ran and did another T25 workout, then yesterday was the gym albeit a steady session with another T25 workout in the evening. Today I will go for a lovely woodland run, it's about 5k with a couple of good hills also 45 minutes of dog walking but that will be it for today.

    Today's food

B/F - 2 x weetabix, soya milk, fruit toast with flora, coffee
Lunch - Quinoa, salad, avocado, hoummus and 2 crispbreads, yoghurt and fruit.
    Tea - hm mexican soup.

Each to their own, your body may respond better to running. However, speak to any sports coach and they will tell you the importance of resistance training and HIIT, it puts your body into a state of weight loss for up to 24 hours after exercise.

Every person responds differently, but a healthy clean diet, with no alcohol or cheat days, mixed with HIIT and resistance training will 9/10 result in much greater results than jogging.
  • Dolly well done on the bike ride! Sounds like you came past my door - in the south east!

No workout for me today as dd has had a hospital appt - a routine one - and we are having an early lunch at home before returning to school.

I won't join the pros and cons of running debate. But I will say that when I did it regularly, I ADORED it! But the wettier and muddier the better! Loved running in snow too - useful as I was living above the snow line in Sheffield at the time near the top of a pretty big hill. My fave run with colleagues at lunchtime was called 'big hill'. Even now, when I see a steep path, the thought runs through my head: wonder how many times I could run up that!

Now, with dd, I'm a home workout bunny and am amazed at how tough a workout can be done with my own bodyweight. Oooh, just mulling over my next 10 min workout - it could be handstand burpees!!

Whatever your exercise, just enjoy it!

  • Today's workout was a 12 minute one - 50 secs of work and 10 secs rest. 1 chin ups 5 from standing
    2 prisoner squat jumps 26
    3 mountain climber 56
4 clapping push up 10 onknees
    5 jump lunge 40
    6 bicycle 45
    7 dip 19 on floor
8 fore and back lunge with jump up - left 12
    9 right 11
10 side crunch - straight leg left 21
    11 right 21
12 burpee 8 with press up

    Loved it!

Butnot a good eating afternoon - made scrummy browmies for a Macmillan coffee morning on fri. And just had to eat some....!

That's just quality control Apple muncher it's a sacrifice one has to make :D

Kettle bells was great tonight with some newcomer's to the group we had a back to basic kind of evening feel i've had a workout but for once haven't left the building with my knuckles dragging on the ground :D

also done well on the food front with left over 3 bean soup for tea altho I did polished off the cornbread ( it was a faff to make a clean recipe from scratch so only fair I had the last spoils of war)

Been stuck in the kitchen most the night cooking/preparing things like fruit puree and soups so it will just be jacket spuds cheese & salad/beans tomorrow, sandwich for lunch and the usual porridge, they can freezer dive if they want something different and cook themselves.

As zebedee would say...Time for bed

I've 7 stone to lose and an incentive of a long haul flight in 7 months, no, I am not hoping to be 7 stone lighter by then but a good way towards it!.
I have treated myself to a no frills no contract gym as thanks to a injury running outdoors is not ideal as yet, I seem to be a magnet for frogs anyhow  and I don't want to squish them and do myself a mischief!.

Welcome levens - glad you are joining us.

The image of being a frog magnet has made me giggle - I imagine them stuck to you like flies!!!

Today I cycled to and from work again and my garmin reckons it was harder work than last week. I could've told it that! Am rather pooped, but will have to stay awake at least until dd falls asleep!

Have managed sugar-free so far. Tomorrow dd's school has a coffee + cake morning for Macmillan so I'll not hit sugar-free tomorrow! Even if all I can eat there are my brownies, I'll do MacM proud!!!

  • Hi all

Still slowly increasing the amount of exercise I am doing. Dolly I really take my hat off to you, I wish I could do that much but the aches and pains are holding me back at the moment.

I have decided to cut down on the caffeine at the moment as I drink far too much tea and coffee. Trying to just have two cups a day and drink hot water instead, lets see how long I can last!

Oh and going to join a kettlercise class next week if my achilles still feels OK. They seem really popular so will see how I get on.
