Apple muncher, do you feel any difference when staying away from sugar?

Day 8 with no sweets for me. I kind of start missing them...hm...
  • Hi, just found this thread and recognise some names from others I've joined - wondered if I could join you all here?

I am a great starter of various diets / healthy eating / exercise plans, but always lose enthusiasm after a few weeks, resulting in spectacular falls from every wagon! Think I need to share goals with some like minded people rather than keep trying to go it alone, as it's clearly not working.

I'm currently at least two stone overweight so would like to lose this steadily through healthy eating and exercise....

eyebright no i didn't go to the doctors, I think I was spared the chest infection, just a phlegmy cough in the end.

I managed 40 minutes of dog walking and did some cleaning in short bursts. Nothing great exercisewise but better than the last three days, and I was tired and sweaty afterwards!

Looking forward to the usual optimism of a Monday morning tomorrow :)

  • Thanks Fmess, currently sitting on bottom with wine and chocolate so not an auspicious start! Will work out short and long term goals in next day or so and post them - hoping seeing them in black and white with witnesses will help. Looking forward to the journey, am very impressed with everyone's stories and achievements.

Welcome Caeraugirl - aim high! Then work out how on earth to get there! That's what I'm trying to do.

Fmess - glad you are on the mend.

Blue_mango - yes, I feel tonnes better without sugar. And a gazillion times better when I avoid grains as well. My aim in September is 27 days without sugar. Well, Sept 1st was an epic sugary day, resulting in feeling sick, and gaining weight. But I've been sugar-free since then. I try to plan when I'll have sugar, so I have something to postpone the cravings. My next goal is the 15th. Good luck!

    morning all.

Hello Caeraugirl look forward to hearing about your journey it was the extra 2 stone when I decided to take it to task seemed the cheaper option than buying a whole new wardrobe in a bigger size :rotfl:

Glad your feeling a bit better Fmess take it easy.

Eyebright there are loads of free slimming world recipes on-line low carb and low fat (just have to watch the sugar content on some)

Weigh-in day for me this evening for once im not to worried if there is any justice in the world should of dropped the 1LB I was aiming for.

Fantastic day yesterday parked up at Newlyn and had a wander round Mousehole, DH had been sneaky this week got me a new wedding ring it's a shame I can't wear my original again now it fits but the band is too wide with my arthritis.

Feeling determined this morning! Will stick to my breakfast and lunch choices, all low fat!

No idea whats for dinner at the moment, but again will keep it low fat. Weighed myself on my home scales this morning and they unexpectedly came in at 64.3kg. 1.2kg lighter than yesterday. 3 times got the same result! No idea what's going on there...

Have a great day all xxx

So my goal for next week, is to try and eat low fat meals, and smaller portions. Cut out the sugar binges too. They aren't doing my moods any good. I'm due my TOTM next week, so that challenge could be a little tricky.

    ..

Hi, sorry to butt in on the thread, I read regularly but don't join in as I am not a massive exerciser. Several good walks a week do me, though I am trying to fit in some stretch and tone.

Eyebright, don't cut fat to lose fat. The evidence is pretty clear now that eating fat does not make you fat - eating sugar and refined carbs does. Have a look at Gary Taubes "why we get fat and what to do about it". Higher fat diets keep you fuller for longer, don't cause spikes in your blood sugar and so stop you snacking.

I have been sugar free wheat free (well 95% of the time) since Easter and I don't miss it at all now. Combined with the 5:2 diet I have lost a stone since then- but wasn't massively overweight to start with. More than that though, my whole system works a lot better and My gastric reflux has gone and my sinus problems can be kept under control without the use of steroid nasal sprays. I still eat sweet things, but I make them and I don't use sugar - though even those are becoming too sweet now.

    Welcome Caeraugirl.

Eyebright - the scales are a fickle device and they can turn against you very easily :rotfl:.

Today I am walking the dog for an hour ish, then this afternoon I plan to run the 2 miles to the gym then when I get there I will row 2000 metres, cycle on the spinning bike, crunches and planks, then another 2000 metres rowing then 2 miles running home. After tea I will ride my bike for about 8/9 miles. I think that will do for the day.
