Welcome franby :) I find there's no greater inspiration than seeing someone who is what you don't want to be. I hope that doesn't sound too mean.

There is for me - seeing some one pear shaped like me but being fit and stylish :)

Anyway, welcome and good luck to Franby!

It was my day SEVEN without sugar...it was really hard not to visit the shop and go crazy on sweets! When I entered my food on kcal calculator, it showed that I ate too little for lunch, so that might have caused my cravings. Resisted.

Glad to have you aboard Franby, I've found it a great help to have this thread as a sounding board I find keeping a food diary has really helped with my weightloss, even if at times I feel im dancing the tango, continuity really does pay off eventually.

Circuits yesterday was great the weights have risen considerably over the last few weeks seems to be a bit less cardio but I think thats because as now as regular group the instructor knows our other classes and im thankful as most of us stay for insanity straight after the circuits class.

will confess to a cream tea this afternoon with no guilt as I finally started re-painting so it was well earned, have spin and swim tomorrow so will work it off then.

Fmess you feeling a bit better?

AGGY & HDK where you hiding to? hope you are both doing well

    Apple muncher.. thank you xx
  • Hi All and welcome Franby!

No loss this week - probably due to the complete lack of exercise :(
Attempting to rectify this and have done a 5k walk/jog tonight - 50 minutes so a bit of a way from my 30 min goal. I've signed up for a 5k in December so that's the deadline (also have to run it in a Santa suit - should be fun!)

Looking forward to a sleep in tomorrow - had a 15 hour day yesterday getting to a job interview and back (300 miles away) and then work today so I need a good sleep.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

    Thank you for the welcomes!

As usual I have started by getting my notebook ready...I do like to write things down! Today I'm going look at the meals in my very limited repertoire - see what to keep etc and start finding some new ones.

I want to be fairly low carb and cut out sugar gradually so I don't feel deprived. If I start cutting out sugar too quick I start feeling sorry for myself and the mind games begin! And last time I did a total sugar withdrawal I felt very ill - I'm actually scared to go cold turkey again it was so bad! Anyway, I'm regarding this not as a diet but as a permanent change to work towards.

Regarding exercise me and OH (who has a chronic back condition) have decided we should walk everyday. I also want to swim and I have an ancient not too frantic Davina Exercise DVD which I like and should do more often! I also want to look into yoga as I think I should stick mainly to more gentle exercise now, especially as I have not been particularly fit before.

Finally, the bit of me that is annoying me most at the moment is my stomach so any advice on stomach exercises so I can make a little routine would be much appreciated.

Hi Franby. I have lost 4.5 stones so far this year with another 1.5 to go, I am 43 so you can do it if you really want to. I haven't followed a diet of any description or cut anything out at all, I just cut down on the bad stuff and got moving.

In all honesty if you have a fat stomach all the stomach exercises in the world won't help it will just be toned under the fat (I speak from experience), a good cardio routine will be your best bet for burning the fat, one where you are very sweaty several times a week then some crunches, planks etc to strengthen your core ready for it to be revealed.

Me, DH and the kids are cycling today but just on the canal path, me and DH will cycle again later on. I would have done that yesterday and gone for a run today but it never stopped raining so I went to the gym for an hour instead. Back to the gym tomorrow straight after the school run.

It's a good plan Franby, little and often is the best way I started with swimming now finding myself in all sorts of mischief.

If your doing this with DH how about dancing? I watch with envy at couple's that regularly cut a rug no good for us as I have two left feet and DH would rather cut a limb off than dance (still waiting for my first dance)

Beautiful weather down here, so off for a bit of sea air. Have a great day everybody.

    Hi all

Thanks tori, I'm starting to feel a bit more human today. I've managed to get dressed and in a minute I'm going to try a 20 minute dog walk. The weather looks so lovely, I just want to be outside.

I'll start back on the healthier eating tomorrow but think it'll be a few more days before I can return to the gym.

I am finding my stomach the main problem area too. The fat has definitely found a comfy spot there and isn't keep to budge.

Me 3 for a podgy tummy! I think mine though, is because although I have exercised fairly regularly over the last few months, my diet has lots of room for improvement, still quite high in fat and sugar. Oh, and salt, so probably a bit of water retention going on!

Last week was rubbish for me (sorry for not posting very regularly, work was so manic and I was too tired in the evenings to make an effort at anything).
Diet was pants, and apart from averaging about 14k steps every day due to running round like a headless chicken at work; exercise was none existant. Barely moved from the sofa once I was home from work.

I've had to work this weekend too, but by some miracle I got into the right headspace this afternoon and enjoyed a nice, sweaty workout at the gym this afternoon. I was the only person in there

At the gym they have a fancy weighing machine that works out your body fat % etc, so treated myself to a go on that :rotfl:

According to that I actually weigh 9st13lb / 63.2kg, not the 65.5kg my scales at home are resolutely sticking to! Which puts me much closer to being a healthy BMI. According to this I'm 26.3, and UNDER 10 STONE! I have no idea which scales are more accurate though. Sadly though, my body fat came in at a whopping 48.2%, which is better than the 54% I was a year ago when I last used the machine. But still....nearly half of my body weight is FAT :o The reading states anything between 30-37% is acceptable apparently.

So my goal for next week, is to try and eat low fat meals, and smaller portions. Cut out the sugar binges too. They aren't doing my moods any good. I'm due my TOTM next week, so that challenge could be a little tricky.

Welcome to the thread Fran! Stick with us, everyone has been so friendly and welcoming to me, and Dolly, Tori and AM constantly inspire me with their dedication and determination. Slow and steady wins the race is my best advice, and work on making little changes and building up from there. They don't seem like much, but they will all start to add up. :)

I hope you are feeling better Fmess. Did you need antibiotics? I have a day off on Tuesday, looking forward to finally managing to relax, before I make myself ill...

It's been a quiet day here as dd has been rather under the weather. But I've kept sugar-free - 6 days now, and eaten plenty of veggies.

Snuck in a workout this morning: 18x10/30: jump split squat left; right; elbow plank side jump; exploding star; pendulum; bicycle. All v sweaty!

Hugs to all who want them x
