And so many status updates from people on holiday! You're on holiday! Go and actually be on holiday instead of on facebook!

    ^^^^^^^
    Couldn't put it better myself!

In my opinion it is just bad manners to stop mid conversation to check your phone and just expect others to wait for you to rejoin the land of the living!

I like your way with words.

I've got two Facebook accounts. Rarely look at either of them so I don't really care what anybody posts on there.

I do have a mobile phone box again after a gap of several years (at the insistence of my wife.) Had it over thee months now and made two phone calls on it. I use it mainly as a calculator or for accessing the local e-Library.

Most people will disagree, but I find it sad that people choose to announce huge life events to their friends (and sometimes even family) on facebook, such as engagements, pregnancies, births etc. It takes the same amount of time to send a group text message/email to your friends than it does to upload a baby scan photo. Just not for me.

    I agree too.

About 4 years ago, I lived quite far away from home; so communication was FB, text messages and fortnightly phone calls home. Anyway, some !!!! that is my uncle, decided it was appropriate to announce that my Grandfather (his FIL) may have cancer. I don't know about anyone else; but I thought that was really inappropriate and not the way I wanted to find that out.

I have been moaned at many times because I don't have my phone on 24/7. Is it that wrong to want some peace from it? Apparently, not. The problem appears to be because I don't respond straight away. He sees me at least once a week, knows where I live and knows my home number. I don't expect others to reply straight away. I know that I've sent text messages to people when they're at work, etc. and they respond when they have time. That's fine by me.

I have noticed that when people txt/send me a message via Facebook, if I take longer than a few hours to reply, they don't reply to me at all. But if I reply immediately, they will.

I used to have a friend who if I didn't reply in a certain amount of time, he'd just keep sending me messages to get my attention.

Oh FB no haven't got it, can't keep up with the happy, smiley, perfect lives everyone else seems to have:rotfl::rotfl:

I don't allow mobile phones at the dinner table, my eldest is attached to his phone and even he leaves it behind so we can have a conversation:D usually he is hunched over ( I swear there will be a generation of back troubled teenagers!)

  • I went out for drinks with some younger folk a couple of weeks ago, it is really surprised me how dull their evening was. For a lot of the time they were all sat at the table not saying a word to each other but checking phones, one of those youngsters has her phone charging by the bar and was like a jack in the box never again. Lol they were probably texting/Fb king each other wondering how to get rid of us!

The inspirational fb posts are always by those who complain about their meaningless empty lives, get off the computer and go live then you won't have need of this !!!!!.

Other fb annoyances include those people who post links or political observations about the 'right' way to think or behave but in conversations with them they demonstrate the exact opposite- do me a favour and take your unthought clicking off my news feed.

Children and dogs seem a waste of time unless its a funny tale.

Ha I wouldn't be on it except to share my wonderful life :p

My parents don't allow phones at the table either, which is basic good manners really.

Though it did once get me into trouble with an ex because I didn't reply straight away (think that speaks volumes about why he's an ex :rotfl: )

I think I only use my phone so much as I live on my own (well in a houseshare with strangers) so I spend a lot of time alone and it gives me company. :o I think I'd feel pretty disconnected and lonely otherwise which is stupid and pathetic I know

I divorced facebook over a year ago - thank god I haven't got to listen to the Carp anymore. and people crowing on how well they are doing playing games. and yes I too think manners have gone out the window. It really annoys me when people are in the middle of a conversation with you and the beep of text ..........and they are silently texting away. I deal with this now by walking away. if they cant be bothered with me - sod them.
