Facebook is what you make it. If someone annoys you, delete them or hide their posts.
I personally think it's brilliant. I am in a lost and found pets group and loads of lost pets have been reunite with their owners due to the group.0 -
I think this is true for tv too though. People waste hours watching rubbish on tv because they have nothing else to do or to relax.0

I think I'd feel pretty disconnected and lonely otherwise which is stupid and pathetic I know
Its not pathetic or stupid, I do get that as I know I use my phone or laptop more when I'm on my own, especially if the children are with their dad.
Its the over sharing, showing off, attention seeking carp that annoys me.
However I really enjoyed viewing a shared post tonight about a guy singing karaoke at a petrol pump. It made me laugh and I'm glad I watched it. Would have missed it otherwise.
Ironic that Im having a moan and a laugh with FB at the same time!! Contradictory I know. :rotfl:0 -
FB has its uses if you use it wisely! I only have people in my friends list whom I actually know, and I don't use it daily.
Worst of all are the drama queen types who post cryptic updates, or a sad face, and then wait for the 'U OK hun?' comments to flood in. :rotfl: I never ever comment on these, and I have unfriended them all one by one!
Oh and I know someone who checks in EVERYWHERE she goes, even A&E!!! :eek:You are so right about FB. Spawn of the devil.
Last week my son told me of one of his friends who put on FB she was now 5cm dilated.
My sil who posts everything on FB will often tell her husband and the whole world how much she loves him on FB and he will be sitting in the same room as her. She had an operation some time ago and even gave an update of going down to theatre now, just out of the anaesthetic, just been to the loo after the pain killers etc. She even posts from the dance floor at parties.
:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
I saw a lamebook/buzzfeed post recently where someone said "Do you remember before social media came in and we all took photos of our dinners and desserts, had them printed off, and went round all our friends' houses to show them what we ate? No? Me neither." :rotfl:

Indeed, it is odd that if someone spends all evening on Facebook or a game people criticise, but if someone spends all evening watching rubbish on TV it is seen as normal!
I do agree with those people who hate the annoying passive-aggressive status updates on facebook/twitter. If you are feeling down then either keep it to yourself or actually say what is wrong. I had to unfollow someone on Twitter because every day she would post things like "tearful today", "why is life so hard" and even "sigh...". You could tell she was just desperate for the attention.0 -
Last year I was on a train going from the Midlands to London (a journey of about 90 minutes or so). When I got on the train, I sat next to a teenage girl who was looking at Facebook on her phone. A boy of a similiar age was opposite me, also on his phone. 90 minutes later when the train arrived in London, the boy said something to the girl - turned out they were together, but you'd never have guessed as they didn't say a word to each other for the whole journey, they were just staring at their phones!0

I had one friend who posted pregnancy updates/comments every day- by the end it felt like she had been pregnant for about a hundred years :rotfl:
I like her though so wouldn't unfriend her for that
A thing that does annoy me though....photos
-when people put up pictures- why put up half a dozen (or more!) pics of the same thing? Pick the best one and use that.
- why put up blurry pics/ ones that haven't turned out properly?
- I really don't want to see pictures of your cat EVERY day.
-why upload the entire contents of your camera/phone onto facebook?
One friend put up 123 photos of her afternoon out with the kids. Another- 250 pics of a day at someone else's wedding. I don't 'like' or even look at these albums tbh.
Apart from that...I do like Facebook for staying in touch with peopleCross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. Oh and I know someone who checks in EVERYWHERE she goes, even A&E!!! :
That reminds me - I was in A&E the other night and there was a woman there with a sore toe. Another woman came past on her way out and they obviously knew each other because they greeted each other and the second woman asked how the toe was. The first woman looked surprised and said 'how did you know I hurt my toe?' To which the second woman replied 'duuuuuh, you put it on Facebook, you silly mare!' Then commenced lots of hilarity. They then proceeded to take a 'look who I bumped into in A&E' selfie and upload it straight to FB.0 -
*Louise*, I completely agree with you re photos. The amount of times I see 15 pictures of the same sunset/dance floor/cat/dog/dinner/whatever is uncountable. I think a lot of people don't know they don't have to upload the whole memory card.
Having said that, due to FB, I'm today doing something I've never done before, or even considered doing before. Thanks to a friend getting in touch and asking if I'd like to come with. It probably wouldn't have happened without FB, so good things can happen0 -
I like facebook as it means I can keep in touch with relatives abroad and people I used to work with but I don't actually post that much.
What surprises me is that some people talk about everything, have loads of personal information on there, pictures etc. I have no pictures of myself (a couple of my dog), I haven't got information on where I live, when I am going away etc. I think giving away too much information is silly and a lot of people have not got their privacy settings very high. The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0
