So you'd all be quite happy to receive a letter from a primary school with explicit language that would get you banned from this forum? OK, I'll take that on board.

yes - because of the context.

It has everything to do with your child though: unless she sits in a bubble by herself at the school, this is the kind of behaviour that she is exposed to, and of course children of that age pick up from each other.

On the flip side, if you found out your child was exposed to this kind of language and might have been using it herself, wouldn't you want to speak to the school about it? What is so alarming about them being proactive and warning you first?

I'm more than happy to be warned and kept informed about what has been happening. It wasn't in my daughter's class BTW, they have 2 or 3 classes in each year group and all the children involved were in the other class.

I wasn't happy though about being sent a very explicit upsetting document. I don't read anything like that and I don't wish to receive it in the post.
  • Can you PM me the transcript please?

The conversation referred to bestiality, incest, racism, sexual violence, homophobia, explicit references to oral sex, along with some general childish taunting, e.g. you have no friends and your parents are ugly prostitutes (para-phrasing).

I'd certainly want to know if my child had been hearing talk like that.

I guess the school are more mindful of protecting your daughter from this kind of explicit upsetting document hence their logic in exposing you to it.

IME the girls are far worse than the boys!

The children were 10 and 11. They were actually all girls, as far as I'm aware. The ones that have been suspended were girls certainly.

I think a sentence like the one I used, that described the subject matter without the actual conversation might have been more appropriate.

I still think the fact that you were shocked by the explicit content of the actual conversation will make parents sit up and take notice more than your summary paragraph would - and for that reason I still think its acceptable, and appropriate in the circumstances, for parents of that year group to be informed in the way the school has.
