I'm actually quite nervous, its not a flat course and I haven't run that far in anger before so have no idea how hard to push and still go ok. I'm thinking go hard and hang on lol.
Good luck this weekend :j:j hard and hang on sounds like a plan. Let us know how you do.
I managed to get back on top this week, did a 6 mile run on Wednesday and managed my best time for that route, it's a nightmare route with hills but when you finish it feels like a big achievement!
Happy weekend! I'm moving house this weekend so thats going to have to be my exercise!Credit card debt & LBM June 2016 £25,011.12Just because it's stormy now doesn't mean you aren't heading for sunshine0 -

Good luck with the house move, hope it goes well for you!
Anything with hills is always hard so well done with your run
I have just done a series of 30min gentle runs this week about 3.5 miles or so. I am doing the timekeeping tomorrow morning at my local parkrun so that I am not tempted to run tomorrow.
Then an early start on Sunday. I have had a look at some of the route and I am going to be happy with somewhere in the region of 1hr 40.“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0 -

How did it go yesterday? The woman I work with did the same half yesterday and she said it was hot and there were a few people laid out on the Humber bridge. Did you get round okay?Credit card debt & LBM June 2016 £25,011.12Just because it's stormy now doesn't mean you aren't heading for sunshine0 -

Yeah it was a good raceI set off a bit quick (20:16 for the first 5k) but made it round fine. I made it into the top 100 just so well happy with the time under 1hr 34 mins. On that course I was well happy there was a few nasty little climbs on the way.
I only saw one person drop out but that was due to a knee injury but I did hear of someone collapsing on the bridge later on.
How did she find it? Its quite a nice course.“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0 -

That's a great time, well don't there :T and for making it in the top 100, that's a fab result.
She enjoyed it, well as much as you can running a half! She said traffic was a nightmare though and she has to jog to the start line.

Traffic was ok, if you planned well. I got there at 7:15 and drove straight in. Then sorted myself out there with shoes etc so there was no stress of parking. But then again I was meeting a few people there so I had people to catch up with. Traffic looked bad leaving, but again from the car park I was in it was ok for me
I am not sure if I will do it again or not as it does have a few tough climbs on it, but I am also not sure I can stop myself doing it next year for the challenge to beat my time if I pace it right. My "coach" was telling me off yest lol.
Next for me, a week off, may go for a club run on Wed if my leg is feeling better (I have some sort of trapped nerve) failing that I am in the lake district Sat, Sun, Mon. Plan is to run the Ullswater way in 2 days. Get the boat to pooley bridge and run back to glenridding both sides of the lake. (with a couple of small detours up to the tops of a couple of hills) then if I feel ok on Monday run up helvellyn before heading home.
Next race is a 10k on the 15th July.“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0 -
Down to half an hour a week now due to IT band pain. Swimming and cycling gently instead. I'll be back......0

Hope it gets better soon, being injured sucks
I am hoping when I go and race 5k on Sat that my legs hold together after being injured for the last week or so. I really should take it easy but I need to go and push a 5k just to see how it will hold up next week when I do the 10k race.“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0 -
Shiny new shoes arrived today so a nice gentle 10k tonight to see about the fit. Hopefully these will be a nice fit as I would like to be able to alternate these with my current ones as I would like to have a couple of different pairs (and makes) on the go at the same time.“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0

fantastic thread! I started running about five years ago, nothing serious just after a rather sluggish time, I wanted to get fit. Having asthma didnt help so I had to battle some almost attacks running around but I was determined. I took up pilates as well to help strengthen my core and importantly, focus on my breathing.
I now run at least three times a week although I am by no means fast! Best 5k stands at 26 minutes 10 seconds, with best 10k at 54 minutes 54 seconds. Doing the Manchester 10k in a few weeks and aiming for sub 55 minutes again. I have done the Great North Run twice now and my best time was 2 hours 55 seconds, so really hoping for a sub 2 hour one day!
However I have now seriously started to think about doing a marathon. I have been putting it off and having now successfully done half marathons, I really need to sign up. My problem is to do with timing when I eat and when I run. Most of the time my stomach empties and I feel it chronically when I run, so I end up feeling very sick because I run out of energy, so my first goal is to sort my food out!
I haven't been on this forum for a while but since this, did another half marathon AND did a marathon this april! Came in at just over four hours which I was ecstatic about. I still do pilates, thinking of doing yoga next and still run 2-3 times a week. However I've noticed a wee niggle in my hip over the past few months. It doesn't hurt when I run or walk but if I sit awkwardly it slightly hurts. Thinking of cutting the running down a little bit and trying different activities, maybe more swimming, possibly a spin class. Just want to keep myself relatively fit but stop hammering my joints so much! Lovely to see everyone being so supportive on here0
