Well, i cannot do any pressups yet but can at last get to sleep! But did a PR at 5km today! Admittedly, it's still not fast:)
And I'll save up for the physio....he's back in the uk and I've an appointment in May.0 -
After a weekend away running up mountains in the lake district, my legs are just about beginning to feel a little less stiff!
Another race entered for June (10k Trail run) and a couple of weekends fell running booked too.
Now if I can just find somewhere nice to run in between times to get fit!“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0 -
Managed a little cliff running today....well walked quite a bit of the steps up!
Not ready for 10km of it tho! So you are fab!0 -
It's good to see that people are still posting on this thread - it helped me a lot when I was struggling with being a 'new' runner.
I haven't been on here for a while but I'm still running (although moving faster than walking would be a more accurate description :rotfl:). Since I last posted I've gone from struggling to run 5k to completing the Spring 10k yesterday. It was the first time I'd ever run that far (in training I got up to 9.3k) and my chip time was 1:18:51- I was hoping to do it in less than 90 minutes so, although it was slow, it was far better than I'd hoped for.0 -

I struggle with going up hills too!! Good job I can run downhill :rotfl: As far as I can tell, its all practice and technique.
I have signed up for a weekend in the peak district next weekend, 6k on the Fri night, half marathon on the sat, and 10k on the sunday. All up hills, so should be a good warm up for going to Coniston in the lakes the weekend after. (Not racing, just for fun, walking and running)
Just entered a 10k road race, and am debating on doing a half marathon. At the end of June.
Well done @cottyh24 finishing is the main aim as far as I went for in my first race.“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0 -
Sounds great fun....but could be horrible in rain. Different 6km loop on the cliffs today.
Long term damage to achilles and overweightness slow me down.....and I am not young either...but it is so great to be doing it at all!0 -
Hello All - I dont know if I am in the right place or not.....almost 60 - very unfit and about 4 stone overweight. I decided to try the C25k ages ago and just dragged myself to the gym to have a go.
Didnt think I had the courage to go out into the public and thought a treadmill might have been easier but I'm not too sure now.
Found it very hard to get the right pace and only managed to run 2 or 3 of the running sections - finished up walking briskly and faster still for the running sections.
my question really is - do I stick with week one/day one until I get better at it ?
Feeling a bit disappointed but I do have a mindset that tells me that I can't run before I even start so why I have decided to do this is a mystery.0 -

My advice would be to stick with brisk walking at the moment, extend your distances and your pace, to strengthen your leg muscles and tendons before you start any light jogging.
I'd also use myfitnesspal app or similar to monitor calorie intake and usage and use it to follow a targeted weight reduction.

I started in January, and wobbled around the block very early before breakfast. Who cares how long it takes, just do it, for you!0

I must admit that I have never looked at the C25k program, but what is stopping you getting out and walking briskly for a week or so then getting back into the program?
This is all about building up the fitness to be able to do it.
Pretty much everyone is capable of running 5k so you really need to look at your mindset too. 4 stone overweight is no problem and once you start doing more exercise then it will get easier.
I have lost over 4 stone since October when I started running.
Earlier this week ran 9 miles up and down a mountain (total climbing of over 3000 feet), ok it took 3 hours but I did it. So can you given time. :j:j
Don't give in.
Edit: Personally I have never really got on with treadmills and gyms. I find it really hard to motivate yourself to do any sort of distance, its much easier to run to the next lamppost than it is on a treadmill.“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0
