I was using one of these last week for hill running. The chocolate one was quite nice, but you do need to drink some water afterwards.
I am not sure that you would need to eat much (if at all) for a half marathon. Perhaps some others could give some better advice though.“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0 -
SIS gels are good because most people can stomach them and you don't need water with them.
High5 stuff is cheap and effective but disgusting.
Torq taste good but are expensive.
Or there's normal sweets like jelly babies or dried fruit, depending on what you can cope with on the run.Saving for deposit: Finished! :j
House buying: Finished!
Next task: Lots and lots of DIY0 -
Never take anyone's advise for gels or sports drinks. Buy a selection of them and try them out on your long runs. Taste isn't important, they all taste disgusting, but many people have issues with gels and have to find a brand that works for them.
Actually I just saw it's for a half marathon. You don't need any gels at all for running that distance. You only really need to take on fuel for marathons or ultras.0 -
Hello!
I've recently jumped (back) on the running bandwagon. I've tried C25K a few times but never completed it. This time I started just before Christmas and am currently on week 5 (furthest I've ever gotten with it). I've also entered a 5k in May, so that should provide more motivation.
My knees and hips aren't the best (3 of the 4 have had surgery), so 5k might be my limit as far as regular runs, but I would like to be able to do that distance routinely. Can't say I love the during-running feeling yet, but I definitely like the post-run feel.0 -
Hello!
I'm returning to running after injury and illness in the last 2 years. I've signed up to a local 10K with my running club in the middle of April and I'm working through a C210K programme on my phone. Struggling a little bit for motivation at the moment though. I've fallen out of a routine which, for me, is a killer for progress x0 -
Have you got a friend you can workout with.Try the gym on the odd nights.Used to do athletic myself, so I know what's it like to go stale.
I am a member of my local running club but I'm re-building my stamina back up before I go back out on club runs with them again. I have recently been going to the gym and using the treadmill because I don't like the weather at the moment (sadly I'm a fair weather runner most of the time).
To be honest I just need to give myself a shake and go and do it!0 -
I am nearer to 60 than 50 but have excercised all my life until last couple of years apart from cycling. I have started the couch to 5 k and think it's brill. I started to think I could do further and longer than I was supposed to and ended up with an injury that stopped me for a couple of weeks! I am now just starting week 6 but struggled with wk 5 part 3 with running just 20 mins but did it after 3rd time. I am loving it and want to be able to do a park run soon0

I have just entered my first 10k race. Best get training for it as it is the 5th March!
And @away-with-the-fairies keep going with it, parkruns are great.“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0 -
Hi folks, I would like to join in. It is 35 years since I was a runner and I am following Runners World beginners book. I am in week 5 for the third week. I live abroad so cannot join a local club. ..don't have enough of the language. I record what I'm doing on strava. I do not intend to race...I just want to feel well - I am a large older lady
Today is pouring with rain so went for 10000 step walk in waterproofs...on a weekday I would go to the gym.0 -
Morning all, hope you're all well.
I've decided to set myself some goals before I hit 30 and running to raise money for charity is one of them. £3000 before 30 is an achievable target isn't it?
What I'd like to know is how long should it take me to run 1km? I struggle with KMs - more imperial really - but I'm not aiming for a 4 minute mile. Roger Bannister I am not lol.
Thanks all for any help you giveBack in the red :mad:
