donglemouse. Not sure if you got my PM reply. I sent twice but it's not showing in my sent items. I've got you on Garmin connect, but your data isn't showing as I think you have it set to private.

Look forward to seeing you on there!

should all be sorted now my settings are tweaked

The Garmin site's been a bit temperamental these last few days. Might be more site problems.

A record mileage week for me this week; 39 and a bit. Wish I'd run a little bit further now and made it 40. Next week is meant to be easier.

I have a feeling Garmin are having problems as they are rolling out their Connect IQ platform. They've been really slow at responding to my support queries, and the timing is too coincidental with the CES show announcement.

39 miles though, that's serious mileage. I've got a good few weeks to go before I can get anywhere near there. Quite envious really.

Ran 6.2 miles yesterday, further yet, but I'm injured AGAIN! Stupid ankle, not as bad as at Christmas time, ordering new trainers today, and resting it, but need to train. Really need to train or this half marathon won't happen!!

    Hello,

Don't worry about the mileage. Its about form, and feeling good. No point pushing and taking on an injury the weeks before.

Which 1/2 Marathon are you undertaking?

New Trainers? What are your current trainers, what brand and model?

Did you have Gait Analysis when you purchased them?
Have you stood in a bucket of water, and worked out what foot you have?

I noticed ASCIS have a good sale on at the moment, I think most trainers were under £50. If you post up here, I can have a peek around and see if any of the running clubs local have a discount code.

The most I have run before a 1/2 marathon was 13miles, it was awful. Now, I go out for a 6-7 mile slow run, not too fussed on pace however under 70mins then 2-3 miles the 2 days before the 1/2. No need to worry about pace/distance, the crowds and other runners will push you along. :) (Ive completed Great North Run x2, Overseas Half Marathons x2).

Ankle feels better today, i know it's because my current trainers give me blisters, they're just adidas ones that are probably about 8 years old.

I haven't had gait analysis yet, it's on my to do list but we are moving house this weekend so need a time to get into town.

Doing Reading Half, I feel okay about it, I'm happy with my distance so far and aim to get up to 10 miles before race day. I'm just SO slow.

There will always be someone behind you....

even if its the van collecting the cones in...

I once turned up late to a race, i was 20mins behind the starters. There was no start, the guy wrapping up the start banner advised me to simply go. Therefore off i went, about 8-9 mins into the run, i caught up the van that was collecting the cones in. Around the corner, i overtook my first walkers, i was now back in the race... ;)

I had some right funny looks by people, running down the road with a race number on.. :)

I did an HM last year and my longest run before it was 10 miles. I was spectacularly slow on the day - not much under 3 hours but I wasn't last and actually it was quite fun being with all the walk-runners at the back. You'll be fine

as others have said you are unlikely to be last & even if you were, you will get great support

plus you're still faster than most of the population who will never run a half marathon

it's a common fear but there's some amusing anecdotes on the subject in this thread

Thanks guys. I'm trying to remind myself my goal this year is to just finish a half marathon, which in it's self is a great achievement, and time doesn't matter.

Have decided I will rest my ankle again tonight, although it now no longer hurts it did first thing, and I'll see if I can run tomorrow morning or evening.

Good decision, Gonzo. As long as you're injury-free on the day, you'll get around if you're determined enough, but not having recovered from an injury will probably scupper everything.
