The family package which suits us is £21 a month and we even get all the +1 channels :D.It doesn't include movie and sports channels but does all the Sky, Bravo, Scifi, Dave, Living, Virgin :D, Childrens. The bottom package is £15 I think.

Oooh fold up bikes are soooooooooo expensive. I've asked on freecycle and will keep an eye on our local papers classifieds. I'm watching a few on ebay but they all seem to be finishing in the £100 region, and there's no way I can afford that right now. Does anyone have any ideas?

    Hi Clare,
Sorry to hear you've been poorly :( Hope that the tablets start working quickly and you feel better. Just a quick note about Sky; they also offer line rental now which is about 50p cheaper per month than BT (I think). We have their basic TV package which is the entertainment mix (Dave, Sky 1,2,3 and Living/UK Gold etc) and their unlimited broadband which costs us £27 a month for tv and broadband. Their upto 2 meg is free (I think) it's called the base package, the next one up is £5 per month and the max package which is what we have is £10. Also there are plenty of offers around for introducing a friend to sky, including free sky+ box or £50 M&S vouchers for the introducee and introducer. (I only know this as they send me lots of stuff about introducing friends but my friends already have it!)

ETA - I'm sorry for sounding like a sky salesperson!

    21 July 2008 (just about!!)

Well I've had to go back in hospital and was admitted a week on Friday and discharged 1 week ago. I've been having a lot of pain since my miscarriage and it turns out I have a pelvic infection. It hurts like hell - every part of my body hurts, not helped by the tablets they have prescribed causing joint pain. I've been signed off work for 4 weeks to recover but I'm hoping to be back before then - sitting around ill is sooooo boring and it wouldn't be so bad but I really can't do anything even in the house cos everything aches/hurts so much.

One thing I have been able to do though, that has been extremely satisfying, is lots and lots of SHREDDING!!! I had a huge carrier bag stuffed with statements/credit agreements etc for the OR that I put together about 14 months ago and has been sitting in my front room ever since. It felt so good to get rid of it all. I've also shredded some stuff though that I'm thinking maybe I shouldn't have - for instance the form that the judge stamped to declare me bankrupt - I have a feeling I should have definitely kept that one, you know, just in case. Still, it's to late now and it's nice not having a manky old carrier full of things I don't want to think about sitting in the corner of my room staring at me.

The pre-pay card came and I haven't had chance to use it. No correction - I've had no money to put on it lol. I've treated myself to a nice new laptop though - more of a need than a want since my old computer finally went to 'puter heaven on Friday. My dad has (once again!) borrowed the money to me. I'm hoping I can afford to pay him back sometime soon - I'll have to wait to see what I pick up on Monday - it's my first salary since reducing my hours. To be honest I'm absolutely caccing myself about how I'll cope, but I know I will really. If the car has to go then I'll get rid of it and save some money there. I don't want to do that but I don't want to go back to working full time either.

I think I need to do Martins' money makeover and see what I can save on - I'm sure I could get a better deal on electricity and gas, maybe have a water meter installed, and get a better deal on my net/cable tv (or get rid of the cable tv altogether). I just need to sit down and sort things - what better time now I'm off sick. Right, tomorrow operation save some cash starts. I'll keep you all posted on what I'm doing to save some cash and cut back.

Dez - re the Virgin card - does that cost less than a pound per transaction???

    Hi Claire,

    What's Good

So, you can fly Virgin Atlantic, travel on the train with Virgin, or perhaps watch Virgin Media, whilst drinking a nice bottle of red from Virgin wines.. You could even pay for all of this on your Virgin credit card! But, if credit cards just aren’t your thing, you are under 18, or perhaps you have had bad credit in the past, Virgin now has yet another product for your wallet or purse. The Virgin Prepaid MasterCard.

It’s accepted wherever you see the MasterCard brand mark, and can be reloaded with cash for free at the Post Office. It also has no monthly fee and gives you loads of discounts off other Virgin products.

    What's not so good?

Whilst there is no monthly fee, you are charged a 2.95% fee on all retail and cash transactions made in the UK. Whilst this is only around 30p per £10 spent, it can work out expensive if you use the card regularly. Whilst you may be initially put off by cards with monthly fees, they do generally work out very cost effective for frequent spenders. For example, if you spent £500 per month on the Virgin Prepaid MasterCard, it would cost you around £15 in usage fees! You would save around £10 per month with some other card issuers offering a prepaid card with a fixed monthly fee.

    Hope this helps DEZ
