I believe the legal position is that it's the responsibility of whoever has made the arrangements with the funeral director to foot the bill.

I giggled. So OH (who also has this cruddy cold) stopped being angry.
Told him to let them bring it up at the funeral make themselves look like what they are.

melly - the flower arrangement is gorgeous. cant help thinking that the gates of heaven will be firmly closed to the evil ones though!
and the Cat is a real sweety!
if the funeral has been paid for - what they asking for 3k for? a nice holiday for themselves? tell them to take a flying leap.
jeez - good thing you were expecting most of this melly - and continue to make light of their insults - I suspect OH gets upset on your behalf a LOT!

He does poor love.
He really didn't like coming into the kitchen to find me scrubbing everything with bleach. He really saw how it had got then.
They don't realise that we know shed paid for it already so are being who they are.
He was upset at the name thing, I just said to him I'm going to say at the funeral when money is rerequested 'sorry Richard (wrong name and sex obviously ) OH obviously wanted some input into the funeral and obviously had MIL not paid for it up front we would have helped pay for it.'
This made him laugh

OH said he's like a different cat which he is (currently on cat best behaviour to con a home)

melly, we got a similar arrangement when my dad died, my mum later got it made up again in artificial flowers as she wanted to keep it (she always said he'd be waiting at those gates for her). It really was beautiful, your mil will love it.

That lovely little cat has definitely chose you. He's gorgeous!

Agree with others, let them ask for the money at the funeral. Surely they know that you know it's already paid for?
