It's as chavy as a cheap arm tattoo or wearing PJ's to the supermarket....
When I see a young child with earrings I know that's the next generation of single mothers, 2 or 3 kids by different fathers and the rest.....Vickie Pollard mark II
Oh really, I assume this is a joke? I had mine done when I was about 5 (I asked for them do be done). I'm now a highly educated, full-time employed professional and I have no children - not quite Vicky Pollard then.
I can actually vividly remember getting them done and admiring them in the mirror just afterwards!
IMO 13 is old enough, just make sure she knows to clean them and look after them properly.0 -

That's a ridiculous and very ignorant statement to make. You have to take into account cultural reasons as to why some people have their daughters ears pierced at a relatively early age. My daughter was 8 weeks old and whilst I understand some people find that hard to understand, for others it's what they would also do.My daughter grew up to be a mother with 3 children by the same father and the father is a teacher. She also is very academic. Sort of contradicts your theory doesn't it?.
Oh and there are two V's in chavvy!,
Whilst I don't agree with the sentiments in the post you quoted (one of those posts that I wouldn't bother replying to as some things are just posted to see what sort of reaction they can get), I see no reason, cultural or otherwise, why you would pierce the ears of an eight week old baby. Having seen babies and toddlers getting their ears pierced on occasion when I've happened to be in Claires with DD, it's too traumatic to watch for me, heaven help what it must be like for the baby. I couldn't watch DD having her ears pierced aged five with her consent (DH held her hand), how any mother can stand there and watch her baby go through that I do not know. It should be made illegal imo.
JxAnd it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end0 -

Hardly as I was 9 when I had mine done, now 41...full time work since I left college at 18 and, married with no children.
Before the word "chavvy" even existed! :rotfl:0 -

I have refused so far mostly because I was worried about this fashion for stretching but I don't think they want that now and are glad that they didn't do it but my 15 year old is still on about getting them pierced. What is reasonable?
as i don't have an issue with people getting their ears pierced, i'd say the same for a boy as a girl.0 -

its no different, as a mother, holding their hand/sitting with them while they get it done at 5 or 10, or 2. You let your child have her ears pierced at age 5 - so what age would you consider it being suitable to be illegal to?0 -
Just be careful of the metal used as nickel allergies often occur.0

Nothing is definite......
It's an observation.....normally when I see a young child with her ears pierced her mother is usually a jobless single mother and the children have different fathers. I'm sure there are exceptions though...We’ve had to remove your signature. I got her ears pierced when she was 3 months old, she never played with them, cried or even took any notice of them. She is now 25 years old and wears some lovely earrings.
My niece was 4 years old when she got her's pierced and all she did was play with them and make them sore, my sister ended up taking them out and she has never got the pierced again, she is now 26 years old.
My thoughts where the earlier it was done the more she just grew up with them and never touched them.
I was very young when my mum got mine pierced and I also have had no problems.
Everyone to their own, personal choice.0
