What age did you let your daughter get her ears pierced

Options
Daughter will be 12 this year, she's kept on about it for 2 years, I said when she's a teenager eg 13.

Am I being a bit old fashioned ?

I think I was given the option at 11ish, to have it done in the summer holidays between primary and secondary but I think I waited till I was 12 as I didn't feel ready before then.

13 isn't a bad age, how long till she is 13? I don't think it's that old fashioned, I hate seeing babies and little ones with pierced ears so maybe I'm old fashioned too!

I allowed my daughter to get her ears pierced the summer before she was 13, so that by the time her birthday came round (end of September) she could change the earrings. Also meant that she could take her earrings out for PE at school.

I don't think you are being old fashioned at all.

its up to you, and if she's heard from you that she can get them done when she's 13, then she'll probably be expecting to wait until she's 13 :).

I was 12, my sisters 11, when we had ours ears pierced.

My daughter had hers done for the first time when she was 9, she was doing really well with them then she got an infection in one ear so she let them both close up.

She got them done again when she was 11, and she's had no problems at all with them this time.

My daughter had hers done when she was 8. She asked and we said yes as long as she looked after them.

Whilst I maybe think you are being old fashioned, it's something between you and your daughter

My daughter was 12 or 13. I waited until she was old enough to keep them clean herself. It was in the summer holidays so she didn't have to worry about school rules.

I let my daughter get them done a couple of months before her primary school leaving party.

DD was 5 (I think). She nagged and nagged and I really went to town on how painful it is to have done and she still nagged so we took her to have it done and she didn't flinch. Not had any problems with them since, she's nearly 11 now and still just wears stud earrings rather than dangly ones.

I was 14/15 and had to have mine done in the school holidays as we weren't allowed to wear any jewellery at comp. I wasn't prepared for how much it hurt, came as a real shock! When I went in my 20's to have them pierced again (just above the original holes), I had five of my friends with me all holding my hands because I'm a big baby!

And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end

I first had mine done at the age of 7 but they got infected and I couldn't bear Mum taking care of them so we let them heal up.

I got them done again at 13 as a birthday present. They got infected again but this time I was old enough to cope with it.

I did get into trouble at school because I had to wear those hinged hoop earrings (the abscess actually covered over the back of the stud!) but I just presented a doctors note, and I think if I'd been younger I would have been really upset by that as he was quite a stern teacher! Funnily enough since the infection cleared and they healed I haven't had a moments trouble and I'm now 26.

I think getting them done at the start of the school holidays is a great idea.

Just a thought - Claires used to do magnetic earrings so maybe she could play around with those in the mean time?

My DD had hers done when she was 3. She had gone on about it for so long and even me telling her it would hurt she still wanted it done. She is 26 and never regretted it.

Only you know your child as to when the best age is.

I think 13 is more than fair!

I didnt have mine done til I was 16 but I think that was more to do with school rules. I had to get them re pierced later anyway.
