Tax Credits Renewals - 2014

Hi,
I've been so careful to always update TC of any changes in circumstances, especially childcare costs.
I'm being investigated for the 2nd year running and been asked for invoices etc. Looking at my bank statements, my estimates were incorrect on average at £55 per week too much. Not sure how this has happened and I have included my workings out for 14/15 so that hopefully they can check I have done it right.
I'm panicking now about how much of my £181 a week they are going to take from me. I'm a single mum of two under 7 and rely heavily on that money
What happened in your case if you don't mind me asking?georgiasdragons wrote: »This happened to me amongst many others last renewal period.
I received my renewal pack April 19. Did my renewal then received. Letter to ask me for proof so I sent bills receipts internet bAnk statements.
They were very thorough and worked out id over claimed so have been paying the overpayment off monthly.
She also helped me work out the next years costs correctly.
If it's correct don't worry and if not you can pay back any money.
Think they select at random for checks they are not accusing you.
Just make sure you send info to them and chase up to make sure they

how quick did you receive a letter asking for invoices etc? i have not heard yet if i am being investigated. i renewed 2 weeks ago. i have failed to tell them my childcare costs have stopped tho i did use a childminder who registered! really worrying and dont know what to do.
i think in your case you will just have an over payment and they will deduct a small percentage each week. i am also a single mum to a 3 year old and 12 week old twins so rely on money too. just hope i can repay back weekly.
please update on here what happens!!0 -
Will do, don't worry.
I got my letter about a week before my renewal pack came through. But last year it was about 4 weeks after I renewed.31goingon19 wrote: »how quick did you receive a letter asking for invoices etc? i have not heard yet if i am being investigated. i renewed 2 weeks ago. i have failed to tell them my childcare costs have stopped tho i did use a childminder who registered! really worrying and dont know what to do.

I have helped lots of people with these investigations. You need to sit down and think about how you worked out the estimate that you gave to them. Did you base it on circumstances that then changed? What were the changes? It is possible to estimate forward thinking something is going to happen that then doesn't and so your estimate turns out to be wrong, if the estimate was done correctly, and you reported changes when needed then they should accept that as correct.
HMRC in the past have compared actual costs to claimed costs and automatically created an overpayment - but that isn't what the legislation says so if they do this and you think your estimates were accurate then you should get some advice.

Have you told them now? You will have an overpayment and possibly a penalty. What was the reason you didn't tell them? It will be better if you tell them before they start any investigation.

I think if you ring to ammend childcare if you are been investigated already they won't allow any changes to be made to your childcare anyway.
As last year I tried to ammend my costs and was told they couldn't I had to wait for a letter from compliance team.
But it's worth ringing straight away. The longer it goes on the higher the repayment.0 -
Every year I get my renewal pack 20th April.
Still waiting this year I like to get it out the way so wonder why it's later this year? I always get p60 end April and last year renewal took 12 weeks so was hoping to get done by now.0 -
Hi georgiasdragon,
Same here if you remember we were in the same situation last year at the same time. I have not had my renewal pack as of yet but I believe they have set dates for when they are being sent. I have all invoices and bank statements ready this year.0 -
Welsh one
Yes I remember someone said to me once you have a review you get reviewed each year. Well I hope that's not true!
I was hoping as my renewal pack is later than normal I was having an auto renewAl due to real time paye.
But not sure as yet if they will do auto renewals for this year.
Are you going to Renew online this year or ring as normal?0 -

I have seen people say the same, I hope not you think with all the thousands of people claiming they would do people that have not been checked. Past couple of years I've had my renewal through in April but not this time.
We'll on line would be easier but can you renew on line if your end of year is more than your estimated x0
