Tax Credits Renewals - 2014

It was just under £700 difference from my 2012/2013 income, this will be the first full year of receiving tax credits if that makes a difference.0

Hi guys, after much perusal I'm posting in this thread, please forgive me if I'm in the wrong place I'm new to this!!
I am in receipt of CTC and WTC. I am a first time single mummy to a20 mth old toddler. I'm back at ft work since last June and she is in ft registered childcare.
I received my renewal pack during the week which I need to update my income details on. Everything else is all unchanged. Childcare costs/other circs etc.
Havnt sent it back yet but yeah I received a letter from a separate office of hmrc saying we need to check your details as we think ur payments may b wrong.
They have asked me to confirm my childcare costs. And all this other official wording such as if UV made a fraudulent claim/how much of a penalty u will b charged etc etc. I am in a total panic about this I'm petrified. Why have I got this letter? My costs for childcare have never changed. Iv always been conscious of the costs like when she cannot go if she's sick or if they have annual closures for Easter/Christmas etc. But the pack says as long as they don't drop to over £10 for 4 week succession. There obv has been weeks she's hasn't been in the full 5days but 2 weeks Max of a lower charge then back up to normal rate.
Why have I got this letter? I am in total fear of an overpayment when I have always told them the exact info. I'm expecting a knock to the door and a demand for a big lump sum.
Sorry for the life story any help would be so much appreciated. Disaster of a bank holiday wknd for me and my wee princess. Thank you advance.0 -

People are chosen at random every year for more in depth checks. Childcare costs seem to be a more common reason for checks. The way HMRC see it is that you are getting taxpayers' money so they need to be sure your claim is accurate.
Don't get paranoid - its nothing personal.0 -
And your childcare costs don't have to tally exactly between what was claimed and what was actually paid so long as you can explain how you arrived at your estimate if you averaged it over 52 weeks. For example, if she missed a couple of days that you couldn't have predicted, then that shouldn't be taken into account.
However, HMRC staff do sometime just compare receipts vs. claimed amount and declare any difference an overpayment which is not how it is supposed to work if you pay variable costs.
Send what you have and see what they say.

This happened to me amongst many others last renewal period.
I received my renewal pack April 19. Did my renewal then received. Letter to ask me for proof so I sent bills receipts internet bAnk statements.
They were very thorough and worked out id over claimed so have been paying the overpayment off monthly.
She also helped me work out the next years costs correctly.
If it's correct don't worry and if not you can pay back any money.
Think they select at random for checks they are not accusing you.
Just make sure you send info to them and chase up to make sure they

Thank you everyone for your replies.
I am new to a lot of things, motherhood, childcare, tax credits and teething to name a few!! Tax credits really wreck my brain as I discuss everything with them, they send the letter life continues until one of these gut wrenching things come thru the letterbox. U start to think oh have I done that wrong should that b different etc etc. I appreciate your comments and replies. Thank you for your guidance.
I will send all info off Tuesday as I have originals of all statements showing what I have paid from day 1. I should ironically add here that I work in accounts...little hope for me if I couldn't even work out costs correctly!!! Lol...
Thanks again guys.
Georgiasdragon (love the name by the way!) Do u mind me asking were your overpayments a massive sum? Like hundreds per month?? Did they still continue to help towards childcare tho?0 -

hi all. any advise would be greatly appreciated. i received my renewal 2 weeks ago and renewed over the phone. i phoned to check on the progess and have been told it could take 8 to 10 weeks. is this normal? also please do not judge me but my childcare costs stopped a few months back due to going on maternity. i failed to inform them as i had other things on my mind...recently had twins early who were in hospital fighting for their lives. i was too scared to admit over the phone and have planned to do it once my new payment schedule arrives. what should i do? wait or ring asap and admiy this? thankyou0

will i not get into serious trouble though as i have already renewed and lied there were no changes? when i tell them my childcare stopped months ago will there be a chance i get done for fraud?0

i have been told 8 to 10 weeks possibly to renew my claim. does this mean i am already being investigated?0
