I called tax credits earlier today and got through quite quickly.
I was told the deadline has been extended until 6th August due to possible strike action this week!

I got straight through and it was all automated. I hope that is correct as I feel a bit uneasy about it not being a 'real' person on the other end.
  • Hello,
I am self employed and tried to post my renewal online but had a problem in that when it came to earnings I was asked for actual and not estimated....( accounts not done until later in the year ).
Therefore my wife and I filled in the form / signed and dated it and put in the 1st class post on the 24th of July.....do I need to check that they have received it?
Or should I fill in the online form and when they ask for earnings just give last years figures which will be very similar?

    Thanks in advance.

Is there any other reason I'd receive a random payment on Monday, if my renewal wasn't processed?

I've had nothing since I called them and gave them my figures, I worry they haven't processed the call and I'll lose my CTCs?

A one off payment is produced if a change is made to your claim. That could be your renewal or a normal change of circumstances. Only the can confirm for sure.

Thanks, I've had no change of circumstances yet, will have one soon, that's why I wanted to get this claim sorted, before calling to report birth (once it happens).

So if nothing else has changed (other than telephone call with my earnings details), that'll probably mean it has been processed?

What does the payment represent usually, you see I usually get paid weekly on a Friday, might it represent an underpayment due to them over estimating my earnings?

It's just the way the system processes changes. It might be an underpayment, it might be part of this years award getting recalculated.

It's impossible to say, only then can tell you for sure.

    Thanks again.

How long after making random payments does it take them to write to you to advise what the random payments relate to?

I am really late this year renewing I usually have it done a couple of months back however this year it was really quite late when I received the pack only a few weeks ago.

I did try the helpline number and whilst I was waiting I thought I would just check out the new online submission service, just to see if I was filled with faith doing it this way would be pain free, anyhow I started the process online, it was very easy and done in minutes, all renewed for another year and have a receipt I have printed to prove it has been done.

Give it a go if you are having hassle getting through:

Phone line wasn't particularly busy when I called in the past hour but I couldn't renew as I haven't all the info to give income for other half who is at work. So luckily because of the strike I can phone back later or tomorrow, they said before 6th August with info they need. I normally renew during the last few days before and was surprised the phones were easy to get through on. Maybe just luck?

Hi all. I got my P60 in April and realised I had earnt £2900 more than what I had expected to due to a pay rise and general over time. So I called the tax credits office to notify them of this in April as I had my renewal pack - spoke to them over the phone.

I also let them know that my sons child care costs had reduced by £72 a week. This is because my son went nursery 4 days a week but now I've broke up from uni for summer holidays he only goes 2 days now until I go back uni in September. Anyway I've let them know my changes and I received a provisional award dated 28th April. Why is this a provisional award.. It's now over 3 months later and still no actual award. What are they doing? I'm worried now because I bet you I receive a letter asking for all sorts.
Anyone else still on a provisional? Or been through similar?
