Tax Credits Renewals - 2014
Comments
-
I received on Friday a provisional tax credits statement for 2013/14, they say because I reported changes, ie, becoming self employed at the end of that year. They said in this respect they needed to review 2013/14, but it doesnt have the self employed income on it that I declared. And I guess part of me thinks why should I ring them again, when I have already done that with this info. But maybe I should.0

thanks blondebubbles for your help, Im sure youre right. They have reduced payments twice in recent days so hopefully any overpayment has been tasken into accout now.0

Hi, I stopped claiming tax credits at the beginning of September last year when my partner moved in. I then changed jobs at the beginning of December and started earning more money. Am I going to have to repay the tax credits I received even though the change in circumstances happened three months after I stopped claiming?0

Thank you for the reply blondebubbles!
My tax credits assessable income for 2012/13 and 2013/14 has increased by £6054.
I suppose where I'm coming from is that for the period I was claiming tax credits I was definitely eligible.0 -
I told tax credits I was going abroad for the foreseeable future. They would not allow me to give my income for last year even though I had done my tax return and had the figure.
They said I had to wait for the renewal letter then phone from abroad. They do not have an address for me abroad but my lodger is scanning and emailing my mail. The problem is they have still not sent the renewal letter so I can't tell them.
I asked what would happen if I didn't get the figure to them and they said I would have to repay the whole of last years tax credits. Talk about making it hard for me.
I don't want to phone from abroad as it costs a fortune on a mobile and they will only pass me around and say I have to wait for the letter but what if it does not come?
Is there any way round this? Also how are people doing this online I thought you had to phone or fill in the form and send it back.
Any advice gratefully received it is driving me crazy. I lost all my tac credits and child benefit by being honest about being away more than 8 weeks and now wish I had just not told them.
Forgot to add that despite them telling me there would be an 8 week run on they stopped all payments the day I left the country.Life is not the way it’s supposed to be. It’s the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference.0 -
No I will not give my address here. I gave my new address to the council tax office and they are hounding me for council tax on my old property despite me living abroad and making sure by an appointment with them that there would be no more payments due so I am not giving my address to anyone else.
I am no longer getting anything from the uk, even my child benefit stopped the day I left so don't feel obliged to give any of my personal information to the government it is none of their business. It is just ridiculous that there is no way to give the figure until the letter arrives.
I filed my tax return on time and had all my figures ready by the time I left the country but because computer says no I have to faff about and wait for a letter then make an expensive phone call. This mentality is one of the reasons I got so fed up with the uk and decided to leave.Life is not the way it’s supposed to be. It’s the way it is. My Tax Credits letter states that I not need to do anything if the details are all correct. I assumed that this was the case for everyone now. But looking at this thread, I can see that it isnt. Why do some people have to phone, others do it online, and others can do nothing?0

I have two claims for 2013/14. One from 06/04/13 - 18/07/13 joint with my then husband and one from 19/07/13 - 05/04/14, just me and the kids.
Do I put the my earning for the entire tax year on both forms? (I think I probably do) or the proportion earned in each period?
Also when I made the joint claim my ex was not working. the letter with the claim form states he earned around £6000 presumably after he left, however we never saw any of it! We get no support from him, seems a bit unfair that the period he was with us will be based on his earnings after he left- I suspect that's the case though unless anyone knows differently?
Thanks0 -
The renewal form finally arrived today and, as I suspected they have, for the first time used a figure reported by my wife's employer, which has resulted in benefits being cut massively. I will now have to report the correct figure, which for reasons I won't go into is significantly lower. In previous years they trusted us, now they don't.2kWp Solar PV - 10*200W Kioto, SMA Sunny Boy 2000HF, SSE facing, some shading in winter, 37° pitch, installed Jun-2011, inverter replaced Sep-2017 AND Feb-2022.0

For everyone wondering ive found out this over last 3 weeks dealing with TC office.
1....if you cant get through on phone, go through auto service, when it says its busy call back, phone back straight away, you get through 2nd time no prob.
2...Lady told me last week that renewals are sent out beg of june, but they instruct the post office to hold back and only deliver a few at a time, because of the large amount of forms there are!
Hope this helps someone at this hair pulling time of year :S0
