When your income decreases from one tax year to the next, the first £2500 is disregarded.
So if your estimating your income as £13500, your tax credits will be calculated on an income of £16,000.
You need your claim to be calculated on less than £15276 to be entitled.
What if, say, your PY income was £15k, income this year expected to be £22k.
If you tell TCO your expected income of £22k (and so they base the award on £17k), will you lose the exemption certificate?
If you don't tell them (as there's no obligation to), and so your award continues to be based on £15k, will you have to repay any prescription charges you've got free when the award is finalised? Is there any mechanism to do this?
Or do you get free prescriptions if you don't tell them, but have to pay for them if you do?0 -
Renewed online last Tuesday night.
Received a balancing payment this Tuesday.
Final notice 13/14, and New Award Notice 14/15 arrived today.
Pretty efficient.DF0 -
Hi, wondering if any can help please. I got my renewal last week. I'm self employed but have already completed 2013-2014 tax return and also got my p60 for my pension.
Anyway I phoned and gave them figures for last year ( a few hundred less than I estimated) and an estimate for this year.
I got my awards notice today and the 2013-2014 says provisional and I need to update them before 31st January with actual figures. But I thought I had done that the other day. So I phoned again tonight to tell them that these were my final figures.
The lady on the phone sounded confused and put me on hold and asked how I had 2013-2014 figures and I explained that I had already done tax return.
What I'm worried about is what she has now updated as she starting talking about a change of amounts etc, but if my figures haven't changed why would the payments detailed on the new renewal ?
Do I call them back tomorrow or will I get my final award notice through quickly ? How long will I wait for final notice ? Never had any problems before. I appreciate they are busy and don't want to clog up the phone lines but I'm worried about what they have now changed.
Do I also need to take in award letter to housing or are they informed from hmrc ?
Thanks for advice0 -
They took my estimated details for this year and they have put the right figures on the 2013-2014 but they marked it as an estimate. This time they said they have updated again. But I'm thinking I still need to phone back and confirm, just don't want to be a pain lol. :-(0

Hi
I'm wondering if anyone can help me please.
I've rang to renew our tax credits tonight after my husbands employer has taken forever to give the p60.
Anyhow long story short, the employer has given total earnings for the year and put details of only 8months NOT 12, as they started trading under a different name.
Now I didn't realise this until after when I realised it looked too low!
I've now looked through all our details and I've confirmed his earnings as £4000 less!! Now this was a genuine mistake due to the employer NOT telling us the p60 was not the whole tax year (they changed business name and we didn't know when).
Now obviously I will be ringing them first thing to amend the details. But as it was the renewal details and effectively confirmation of earnings, what will happen? Can I even amend it??
I'm worried sick now that we will get a HUGE overpayment and will be accused of fraud when it was a genuine mistake based on half information from the employers.
Any advice much appreciated
Like I say, I've only done the renewal tonight at 7.45

does anyone know if its any quicker online? I did mine about 2 weeks ago online as I just needed to enter my amount (minus smp) I'm hoping to hear something soon as I've heard a lot of people's payments are getting halfed while they wait for their new award notice0
