"Don't worry darling, I'll clean the kitchen tonight. You relax."

Five minutes later he collapses back onto the sofa like he's been at work all day, having wiped down the counters and dead chuffed with himself that he's such a generous partner.

    Despair.

You have one that WIPES the counters?? You're so lucky :rotfl:

Mine puts stuff in the dishwasher a couple of times a week, ignores the crumbs on the surfaces and expects praise for 'helping out' :rotfl:

He is useful at other stuff though, so I let him off :D

I haven't got a dishwasher either so plates etc that need washing get put in the washing up bowl in the sink. My OH insists on putting them on the worktop next to the sink and it drives me mad!!

But the dishes to be washed have to go next to the sink, so they can then be put in the sink in the correct order for washing. You can't just pile everything in together, with the glasses in the same water as the pans and such. Your OH is doing it right!

Mine drives me mad by acquiring a piece of rubbish like a wrapper or a receipt, then just dropping it where he is instead of taking it to a bin. Sometimes I feel like I'm forever just picking up after him. And he doesn't drop litter in the street!

He could be worse I suppose, at least he usually gets round to doing his share of chores eventually, and mostly throws his clothes in the general direction of the laundry bin even if he doesn't always hit the target.

I can however completely identify with the person who said if it wasn't for them saying they'd be living in a midden, yet somehow they're the one who is in the wrong and "nagging".

My OH puts cups and plates next to the sink, which isn't even next to the diswasher. I've taken to putting them next to the dishwasher and telling him it's empty. I'll be bug!!!!ed if I'm going to put it in the dishwasher for him.

Strange thing is, it's he who loads the dishwasher after dinner so why he can't manage it with snack/coffee crockery I really don't know.

Did anyone see the comedian a while ago talking about the dishwasher, it went along the line of why does the other half put dishes on the kitchen surface above the dishwasher? You may as well put them in the garden as they won't wash themselves there also!

I live in one of these homes, anyone else lol?

Is it that they are lazy or they just don't "see it" ?
Before myOH took over the cooking, this happened last year when I was quite ill, he always used to leave the dishes above the dishwasher. His excuse being we pack the dishwasher differently. Actually I am very fussy about the order the dishes go in the dishwasher, maybe even a little OCD about it. Now he packs the dishwasher and I leave mine on the top, if I open it I know I will be so tempted to rearrange them in a logical order!

My OH fills the sink with dishes and dirty water and leaves them to 'steep'. I tried leaving them once to see how long a steep he thought was necessary, and it turns out it's until the sink and bench is full, the cupboards are empty, and I'm seething. As soon as they've reached this prime steeping point, he'll wash the few in the sink (leaving some bits of food and grease on the bottoms because 'it doesn't matter if we don't eat off it') and then a bit of the pile on the bench gets it's turn for a steep.

He also fills the washing basket until it's overflowing and when nothing else will fit he fills the washing machine, and comes to me after a few days to ask why the stuff in the machine isn't washed. (Poor lad thinks we have one of those futuristic machines that you don't need to turn on or put soap in).

His method of tidying up is piling things up behind doors, which is actually more annoying than the heap of dishes because it makes moving around the house so difficult!

I'm sure he has some good points...

My husband puts his mug and plate from breakfast NEXT TO the dishwasher - never in it. He puts laundry ON TOP OF the laundry basket. Putting the loo roll away after shopping? OUTSIDE the cupboard, never IN the cupboard. I've asked him if he thinks we have a dishwasher fairy but he just ignores me.

As a kid I remember once my parents had friends to stay the night and in the morning the 4 of them were heading off somewhere early.

My mum was the one who did everything in the housework duties front, and my dad didn't really have a clue.

After the four had eaten cereal ,toast and drank tea my mum asked dad to do the dishes so she could rush to get ready.

On her return downstairs the kitchen was clear, the 4 of them left for the day out, on my parents return my mum opened a cupboard and there were all the dirty breakfast dishes stacked away!

That's the latest thing to do in small London kitchens. I don't live in London anymore, and my kitchen isn't small, but I'm still considering it!

Its not just small London kitchens. We were talking to kitchen designers a couple of years ago who were all quite amazed I was prepared to live with one dishwasher :D

My OH will quite happily put his dishes in the dishwasher after lunch and dinner, but 'doesn't have time' to put his mug in there before he goes to work in the morning. Could someone explain that one to me please?

He also leaves socks outside the linen basket, even though everything else finds its way in there.

Ah the empty toilet roll left on the side. Again, why? There is a pedal bin next to the sink in all of our toilets, how difficult is it to put the empty toilet roll in one?
