Incidentally, we only do dishes once a day usually. After tea, so thats why there's so many of them! Breakfast, lunch and tea dishes along with my endless cups of tea and coffee if Im at home. I hate washing dishes.0

You don't see it. Dishwasher may be full if clean stuff waiting to be unloaded. Food rests May need to be removed from a plate. There may be some stuff you don't want to put through dishwasher. You may have different preferences as to where you put what.
I hope I have helped a bit in you solving misteries of this world
Lol why am I the one who have these powers to know what's going on with a dishwasher.0 -

Maybe he leaves them there because the next time he wants to use the bathroom he'd like to put on some music and lip-sync while pretending the toilet roll tube is a microphone?
Not that I've ever done that or anything...0 -
Oh I've got another one
Used razors, hubby uses disposable bic razors, I'm not even sure if you use them more than once to shave, he however seems to have a collection on the bathroom sink when the peddle bin is underneath it. I tend to move them onto an empty soap dish next to sink as not sure if "they" are currently in use. When a whole family of bics appear I swoop and they go to peddle bin heaven.0 -

Ah but you see, we have to keep those because you need to know whether you're producing the same amount of facial hair between shaves or not... because... reasons.
Also, it helps us gauge the quality of the craftsmanship of each individual razor. We like to take a moment to appreciate good craftsmanship.0 -
OH leaves socks on the floor next to the washing basket, literally touching it. Drives me mad.0

OH was anti getting a dishwasher when we refitted the kitchen and would still do the odd thing by hand. Our dishwasher broke just over a month ago and we cant afford to replace it. He now moans continually about washing up by hand, as hes having to do at least 5 bowls a day.
I think if you are a small household, Washing by hand isnt such a chore. but when its 5 lots of crockery/cutlery plus cooking utensils, then a dishwasher definitely comes in handy. Were currently stacking the dirty stuff in the broken dishwasher, so the worktop doesnt look too messy lol0 -
What happens if you just leave things where they've been put?
I tested this - they just get left because no one sees them or cares about them. I marked a teaspoon and put it on the floor in front of the fridge. I left it for over a week (annoyed the heck out of me) to see if anyone else would pick the thing up and not one of them did. I gave in eventually and told them all off.
The thing that annoys me though, is that because I have to constantly ask them to do things, or remind them about things so we aren't living in a midden- it's me that's the nag.
Regarding the dishwasher - I don't trust my kids not to put plates in with stuff half stuck to them  so I ask them to take crockery through and stack it neatly on the draining board......unfortunately the draining board is at the far end of the kitchen which is...oh.....at least another half a dozen steps away, so the stuff doesn't always make it that far.

You have set a plan of action.
On Monday MSE leave a teaspoon on the floor and let's see who has the fastest / slowest household member!0
