This week, work has been ridiculous and it's only Tuesday! I'm trying to get ready for next week because we're away over the weekend so it's extra busy. I'm at the stage where it seems like so much extra work that I almost wish we weren't going.

I'm a bit disappointed with the forecast for the weekend as we planned on walking with the dogs. We'll just have to pack waterproofs and hope for the best!

I had a letter today saying that my hospital appointment in March had been cancelled and a new one made for next week! It's a bit of a shock as I thought I had longer to prepare and get myself used to the idea that they might suggest more surgery so I'm quite anxious about it. I've also got to try and get the time off work which isn't guaranteed. Things seem to be moving far quicker than I expected!

    Evening all!

Sorry it's been so long, we've been so busy over the last few weeks.

Breaking news - last weekend we decided we had had enough of living in a building site so today we have moved in with my mum! Although I know we are lucky to have this option, I am not completely happy to be moving out of my own home and there is so much stuff to sort out! I decluttered a lot last year, but it is always surprising how much you have when you need to pack it. Also, my mse ways seem to be rubbing off on my DH (finally) and he was determined to return the hire van by 1pm to avoid paying another day :T

We're mostly in now but need to move one more car load tomorrow then take a trip to the tip. I've asked for a clean car for Valentine's Day :rotfl:

    Anyway, I'm in need of a catch-up with everyone's diaries :)

    Happy half term

So, here I am, living with my mum again at the age of 30!

I am so grateful to have a place where we can stay and I keep reminding myself of that fact, but I am finding it a bit difficult! I just like being on my own in my own home too much.

Most of our possessions are either here (all squeezed into our bedroom) or stored at DH's mum's. Our house still has a few bits to sort out and cram into the loft but it already feels like an empty building. It's not our home anymore which is an odd feeling. DH is very excited and enthusiastic to get the work done now that we are not trying to continue some kind of normal life in amongst the chaos.

Financially, this will cost us more in petrol because we are farther away from both our jobs. We will pay a bit of rent to my mum, on top of our own mortgage, although we should get a 50% council tax discount when I send them the evidence! and hopefully our water and electric will reduce. We are going to share the cooking and will continue to buy our own food and do a weekly meal plan. It will cost us more but hopefully not too much.

Tomorrow I want to get most of my schoolwork completed to I can switch off and forget about it for a few days.

Almost four months on and we are still living with my mum! The work on our house is going well and we hope to move back in at the end of July, start of the school holidays. This whole process is tiring and stressful as expected and I can't wait for it to be over. We'll be moving back before it's finished but it will be so worth it to have our own space again!

So, what has prompted me back to MSE again? We have just had the most expensive few days ever :( I took my car to the garage with rattling suspension and a water leak which cost £575 to fix, but when they took it out to test it, the water pump broke and all the coolant poured out. I can't get it back until Tuesday and it's going to cost another £175  Also, the courtesy car they gave me has an insurance excess of £1000 so I'm too scared to drive it!

Then just when we thought that was it, DH took the evening off from the building work last night and we took the dogs for a lovely long walk. They were running around in a field of long grass, chasing and play fighting as usual when the lurcher suddenly started crying and we could see a huge wound in his side :eek::eek: He had run past our terrier so fast that his skin ripped open :( We had to dash him to the vets at 10pm and now have another bill for £375.

So, what with higher spending while we pay rent in addition to our mortgage and normal bills, increased petrol costs as well as putting more of our savings into the renovation budget, I need to cut down on all other spending. I don't feel that we've been spending carelessly but documenting our efforts to re-fill our savings may help me feel more in control.

And finally, I have been so uncertain about whether to write about this on here, (and I still might delete it) but it is on my mind most of the time and it's not really a secret. It is also the reason for our savings and could potentially have the biggest impact on our future finances. So, here goes...DH and I have our first appointment at a fertility clinic on Tuesday and I'm really nervous :(

Today has been lovely and sunny. I went on a long walk with a new friend and a local walking group in the glorious sunshine. It wasn't a NSD as I had to get petrol and a £1.90 ice lolly :-)

I'm also a bit sunburnt which means I need to replace last years sun lotion because it's obviously not working!

Big dog is acting more like himself today - which is worrying because he keeps hurtling around and I cringe when I think of his stitches getting bashed!

Anyway, it's a new term tomorrow so the next 7 weeks will be busy! It's ok though as it will help us to avoid spending,

Good luck for tomorrow, I know someone who's just had a little magic bean :).

Thank you for all of your replies :o

Our appointment went well. I wish I hadn't been so worried about it. It was mainly information gathering and the nurses and consultant were all nice. I am soon to be booked in for a few more invasive tests, one which I've had before and found very painful and one which a friend has said is very painful  Not helpful when you are a complete wimp about all things medical :(

Oh my goodness - this week has been 'interesting':eek::eek:

My car is back and seems to be fixed for a total cost of £746

The dog has been back to the vet because he managed to scratch at his stitches  They have finally stopped bleeding and he is now sporting one of my t-shirts, as well as his lamp shade :rotfl: Luckily this appointment didn't cost anything but we have to back on Saturday.

Then on Monday I started to get toothache, and this morning had root canal treatment :( As mentioned above, I am a complete wimp and I only just managed to hold back the tears until I got in the car. Cried again when I got back to work, first to our poor acting headteacher then in the busy staff room at breakdown. :o:(:o Feel like a right wally now! This cost around £53 and I have to go back on Friday for a filling. Oh and it now hurts more than before :(

So yeah, I'm not having much luck this week! We have paid £1186 in unexpected bills and visited three different medical establishments! But I guess if it wasn't for MSE we wouldn't be able to pay these kind of bills all in one go - silver lining?

Righteo, I'm going to go and overcook some pasta until its soft enough to eat :rotfl:

Thank you for reading and for your kind words - it does make all the difference :D

Feeling a bit emotional and fed up today. My tooth is still hurting, my car is still leaking water and now my phone needs repairing! When will this end! I literally feel like I can't take anymore.

I so can't wait to get back in my own house. There's nothing like hiding away in your own home after a bad day :o

Anyway, tomorrow is my day off so yoga in the morning, then dentist for my root canal filling and marking to do. The forecast is for rain :(

    Edit - in MSE news:
    - called the AA to complain when they took the wrong amount after I haggled my renewal cost down to £83 last month. £27 is on it's way back to my account.
    - NSD
    - renewed library books :A
