You have offered some very useful advice, as posters have testified.

I'm so pleased I made a positive difference in your life. That's all I ever stride to do, so thank you, it means a lot:beer: :A
You are welcome.. but its the truth. Its difficult to change a mindset when you have TV programmes constantly shoveling" the you must eat 1500 calories" down your throat. People (like i did) believe what they are told.
Yes its true you need to eat less to lose weight but its wrong of a documentary to keep screaming eat 1500 calories line. Then added into the equation you have programmes like the biggest loser where a 6lb loss is something of a disappointment. :undecided
The food industry ( in particular the diet market) needs a good kick up the backside along with supermarket who line the aisles from start to finish with crisps and chocolate. Its just wrong.
ETA - Its chuffing hard if you have a sweet tooth to be constantly surrounded by chocolate. Sometimes i chant to myself "dont buy anything, it wont make you happy " when in the queue at a supermarket or in a shop. Sometimes the inner voice works and sometimes not..

Tonight for my dinner I made lentil bolognaise served on steamed cabbage instead of spaghetti. It tasted really nice and made me realise how bland pasta is.I will definitely have it this way in future.
Plus (apart from a little bit of grated cheese) everything was vegetables, so I am feeling really healthy now.0 -

I realized that you were right about its not about how many calories are in a certain meal or particular food- its more about what nutrients can be gained from that meal. I will see if i can find the post i mean.
I hope that makes sense^^
I would agree with this - albeit I can't say that I have managed to apply your dietary wisdom to my own life recently
But, that doesn't negate the truths in the information you are giving out. Very helpful info, IMO.0 -

It's far easier for me to advise a person when I have their full food diary in front of me and I think I've fallen foul to that on occasions here by commenting on the little evidence some people give.
I'm not an advisory service here, and certainly not an unpaid one, so I think I'll start taking a back seat in threads like this as I feel it wastes everyone's time, but more importantly my own.
Oh, don't stop posting. You're the only one who talks sense!! Seriously, there are so many people clueless about good, nutrition & diet on here. You can't stop!0 -

Really? I think there's been a lot of sensible advice on this thread, from various posters, including Chameleon.0 -

Agree, JBD.
There has been lots of advice which people may or may not take on board and, if the thread runs, I'm sure there will be more advice to come, as diets and dieting are topics close to a lot of people it would seem, and sharing experiences is something that others will also find useful.Dear Lord, I am calling upon you today for your divine guidance and help. Don't do a diet, lose weight through healthy eating, something you can maintain for life. The number of people that regain after VLCDs such as CD is very high.
This is true. I know someone who has been very very overweight for nearly their whole life. They have followed the Cambridge diet about 6 times - have lost stones upon stones but guess what all crept back on again plus some . That to me is not a solution and is certainly not solving any food issues that this person faces.xXMessedUpXx wrote: »I feel the pain of temptation, I am constantly surrounded by food at workwith an additional 50% discount!

Thank you very much. Its not easy- sometimes i really really struggle but if i compare how i eat now to how i ate last year there has been a drastic improvement. Another thing i found very very difficult is to not count calories at every available opportunity. In previous years i have not eaten a meal because i had no numbers to count - which is crazy thinking. I don't want to spend my life forever yo yo'ing with my weight, and second guessing/screaming at myself for every morsel that passes my lips. :undecided
Its not a healthy attitude towards food, and it made me unhappy.
I am now sure that the reason i started binging is because i was counting calories all the time .. I didnt have ANY of the issues i have now in my childhood/teens/ early 20's. I wasn't overweight -if anything i was a skinny thing even during my teen years. It all changed when i discovered alcohol and chips & gravy at 4am in the morning numerous times a week.
Its been a challenge to break this particular habit (and i still have days where i have the 1500 calorie mantra in my head:o ) and eat fish pie ( for example). I just couldn't get my head around the fact i could eat something, not count the calories but still lose weight because i am eating a food that is actually nutritious and easy for my body to burn off.
Thats why i decided that in order to get a grip on the problem i needed to educate myself about food and made myself try foods i thought i didn't like (for example in previous years i wouldn't touch any fruit with a barge pole, disliked veggies especially cabbage and sprouts , grains such as lentils, chick peas, split peas, disliked salmon, salad stuff..honestly it was a never ending list:o).
The result is i do feel happier within myself - my mood swings have improved. I suffer terribly with hormones and general grottiness at that time of the month - another thing that has improved - its not gone but its definitely a whole lot better since i changed my diet. In general i just feel better and look better too.
wow - sorry for the essay
