Sorry to hear that you are feeling so unwell, hopefully it will pass soon. My Mum has had two bouts of labrynthitis, both werewhen she had other minor health issues. It is horrible but it does pass if you rest and give it time. I will watch your progress to early retirement with interest as I have just made that step myself.0

Evening all !
I woke up this morning, and felt refreshed (which is amazing in itself as I'm not good at mornings), so I decided to go to work - they were all quite surprised to see me
Strangely enough, the girl who sits next to me is also having ear problems and can't hear out of one ear. She's been like this for two weeks (she had holiday last week)
She's been to the docs, and has been given olive oil and nose spray and has tried steaming to no avail. She's going to ask if she needs syringing, but I said if she doesn't get anywhere to ask for an ENT referral sooner rather than later.
There's another chap on another floor who is also having ear problems - it's all a big co-incidence, probably, but odd none the less
Anyway, I'm going back to the ENT consultant tomorrow for the outcome of the MRI scan. Whatever the outcome, I will just be relieved to know one way or the otherEarly retired - 18th December 2014

I have been to the doctors for the outcome of the MRI scan.
The scan was completely clear, and I do not have an acoustic neuroma.
What a relief, I can't tell you!
I had an audio test, and my hearing loss in my right ear was judged to be 'mild to moderate'
I also told the doctor of my vertigo during the week.
I've got an inner ear problem, to do with damage to the nerves, possibly viral, but in the vast majority of cases, the reason is never known, it just happens.
I've been referred to a balance clinic, regarding the vertigo - this is NHS, so it'll take a while. In the meantime I've got a tablets to take if I get another attack, to help calm it down sooner.
I'll also get a referral on the NHS regarding hearing aids. So this will take time too.
I hope to get my blood tests done this week, which may reveal some cause, but the tests in this sort of situation often come back as normal.
So there we have it - the reason will probably never be known (only about 15% of these sort of cases ever find out a reason).
My tinnitus is at a level I cope with fairly easily, so that's not a problem.
So now I begin to accept and move forward. It could all have been a lot worse, so I feel fortunate that the outcome has been good, and that I still have quite a bit of hearing left - some people can go deaf overnight. It's shocking how this can happen, I just never knew about this before.Early retired - 18th December 2014

A lovely day here today - Got the washing out on the line nice and early and will iron it just after lunch.
The weekend's eBay listings will end this afternoon. I have 12 listed and so far 9 will sell. So, if people pay promptly, I'll get some packing done this afternoon. I've got 8 more listings starting this afternoon, so my listing allowance for the month is used up. But I never list for the few weeks before my holiday, so that's fine.
Apart from this, I plan on spending the day fairly quietly. just want to settle down after all the upheavals recently.
But, all this has confirmed that I'm definitely taking the right path, by planning to stop work. I just want to be able to do things at my own pace, and not have the restriction and commitment of the working week.
I've mentioned before my lack of engagement with the job. This was even more evident on Friday, when I felt I was just going through the motions - I had no interest in what I was doing at all.
We have a holiday in mid March next year. We had been planning to go back to work after our holiday, to see them through the Easter period, and stop at the end of April. Our thinking now is to stop work before we go...... so that would mean just 9 more months. We'll see how we go.
Our National Trust membership is renewed today. We have been members for years - Mr Goldie gets a discount now as he's over 60. I like being a member, and we have used our membership to visit various NT properties over the years. But in recent years, we haven't done much visiting as all. But this will change, I hope next year, so we are keeping our membership goingEarly retired - 18th December 2014

Great that you don't have the acoustic neuroma

I've had tinnitus since I was about 11/12I find that most of the time it's ok. If I'm tired/ unwell it plays up more. It's like someone trying to badly tune a radio in
It's sometimes annoying but it is something you get used to xx

Hello Goldie,
So glad they seem to be getting to the bottom of your ear problems. It is horrible to lose some of your hearing, but as you say, it could be worse. It is exciting to be so near to retirement though. The time will fly and you will feel like a new person.
All the best,

Still thrifty though, after all these years:D0 -
Ended up with 11 out of 12 things sold on eBay. But that will be the last of the big sales weekends, it'll be a lot less from now on.
Most people have paid, so I'll do the parcel run at 9am. Then I've got someone collecting their purchase between 10 and 11.
Apart from that, it's the Monday housework day, I want to get as much done as possible today, then I can spend time doing garden work tomorrow and Wednesday.
The weather, and then the vertigo has meant I haven't done much in the garden in the last couple of weeks. Our beans are doing well, as are the tomatoes and courgettes. The strawberries are in crisis though. Mr Goldie covered them with a net to keep birds off, but they didn't get enough light and many have died off:( We should have some fruit to pick, but not much. He won't do that again, that's for sure.
I was up quite early this morning, most unusual for me. The good news at the weekend has really been a boost, and I feel keen to press on with normal lifeEarly retired - 18th December 2014

Glad the MRI outcome was clear Goldie and that you're in a place with your ears that you can move forwards with once you get the aids / input you need (NHS wait times permitting).
Weird about the work ears issue though. Do you have air con at work? Lots of airborne viruses being blown around your heads? Does sound like a remarkable coincidence for several of you to be affected over a similar time period!
Good luck with the housework and parcels, hope you get today's to do list done so you can enjoy being out in the garden xStash busting 2014 45 / 60 (balls of yarn)!
