I had my MRI scan this afternoon, and it wasn't a bad experience at all.
They put headphones on me and asking what radio station I wanted to listen to (radio 2). Then I had a cage thing put over my head, and a buzzer to press if I wanted help. Then I was moved into the scanner. I could hear various clunking noises, but I felt quite relaxed listening to the music. Whenever I hear Pharrell Williams and Katy Perry in future it will always remind me of my MRI scan! The scan took about 10 minutes, which was a lot quicker than I thought.
The next key date is 7th June, when I see the consultant for the results.
Mr Goldie took me to the hospital. I originally said I'd drive myself, but yesterday he asked if I was sure, and having thought about it, I asked him to take me after all. He waited in the car park. His car has Bluetooth. After the scan, when he started the car up, it kept wanting to match a phone to the system. He didn't have his phone with him and mine was turned off. I think I must have had some magnetic residue on me or something , and the car thought I was a mobile phone!
I was really tired when I got home and slept for a couple of hours - just a reaction getting the scan over with, I think.
Had an email from my health costs insurance company - they've accepted the claim for the consultants fee, so I'll get £160 paid in the next few days. That was very quick. A new insurance year started on 1st June, so that means I can claim for the next consultants fee as well. Also, I think I can claim part of the cost of the MRI scan too. This will be so helpful.
So, another step forward, one that I'm pleased to have got out of the wayEarly retired - 18th December 2014

Glad the scan was ok, what a relief to get that over with. Hope the appointment with the consultant goes well'A watched potato will never chit'...0

Glad the MRI experience wasn't too bad Goldie...how weird (but funny!) about the car thinking you were a phone!
And yay for the health insurance. I have one of those cash plans too and though I grumble about the monthly cost, they are super when you need them.Mortgage (original/ current):193,000 (23/09/11)/ £102,500 (07/11/2019)

That sounds like it went very well Goldie, what a calming idea to let patients listen to some music while they're scanned
Just be careful with that magnetic residue when you're out and about - parking meters and self service checkouts may try to chat you up :rotfl:0 -

I already hold conversations with the self service checkouts.

At this rate all these automated things will be proposing marriage to me:rotfl:
I've already been out and about this morning, as I had a dentists appointment at 9am. Nothing to be done, hooray! It's an NHS dentist, so I only had £18.50 to pay, and I can claim it back on my trusty health costs policy. As Mouche said, these are really handy policies to have, and this policy is paid for be my employers. It's the only perk we have, but it's a good one. I work 45% Of the hours of a full time member of staff, so my pay and holidays are pro-rata. But I get a whole health insurance policy, so I feel as if I'm getting double benefit from it.
I managed to do more around the house yesterday than I thought I would. So general plans for today are-
Dusting though out the house
Finish ironing
Do claim for dental costs
Claim back overpaid tax for last tax year, about £100. I was promised I'd get this 'early in the new tax year'. No sign of it yet, so I'm going to make it happen.
Walk if weather permits, looking iffy at the moment
General relaxation.
Pink poppy - you are right, it certainly was a relief to get the scan done. I thought I'd just come home and carry on as normal - I wasn't expecting the reaction of a two hour sleep to get over it!Early retired - 18th December 2014

Turned out quite nice this afternoon - managed to get my walk in as well as the other things I wanted to do.
I've just been looking at the small print in the health costs policy about MRI scans.
In order to claim, I would have had to make the appointment through the insurance company, at one of their approved centres (nearest one 20 miles away), it would have taken two weeks and the consultant would have got the results 10 days later.
So I'll have to pay for the MRI myself - but I did it at a convenient location and my consultant has the report any time he wants.
Maybe not MSE, but for health purposes and peace of mind I can live with this. Will still claim for the next consultant appointment thoughEarly retired - 18th December 2014

Hi Goldiegirl
I started reading your thread a couple of nights ago, only got as far as the first page as your diary gave me my pension lightbulb / panic moment. I've been burying my head in the sand, vaguely thinking that paying off my mortgage early would be enough..... You've encouraged me to take a more proactive and open an isa.
Sorry to hear your going through the mill with your hearing, it's a bit of a shock when you've always been healthy isn't it. My diagnosis of diverticular disease came out of the blue, it's taken me a few days of feeling frightened but I'm up and fighting again.
I hope the drs work out what is going on quickly. X0 -
That's a nuisance Goldie!
On the other hand, your health and your family/relationships need to come before everything else, they're that important
Hope your day goes well.0 -

Just finished work a little early and thought I'd stop by for a quick catch up Goldie!
Glad the MRI scan went well and that you don't have to wait too long to see the consultant, am so pleased the insurance is on your side for the appointments (even if it didn't quite stretch to providing a useful or efficient service to cover the MRI).
As you say, although endeavouring to be MSE, there comes a point when the question of value for money arises in terms of peace of mind and there are times when you just can't put a price on that. Glad you're getting sorted!

Hope work's not too grotty this week ... is this the last stint before the holiday or do you have to work next week too? xStash busting 2014 45 / 60 (balls of yarn)!

Hello everyone - things didn't go to plan yesterday evening. I was ok up until about 9.30pm, and I felt a bit dizzy, so I sat on the sofa, then laid on the sofa, and by about 10.15pm the room was spinning. I think it was vertigo, which will probably be connected to my ear problem. I was very sick, and (too much information alert) had problems at the other end too  It was not nice.
I eventually made it into bed, and I think I must have fallen asleep for a while. I woke up at 12.15am, and the room had stopped spinning by then. I slept on and off after that.
I didn't feel too bad this morning, so we went to Bluewater for a couple of hours as planned. I wanted to be as normal as possible, so we had a coffee in Costa ( had enough loyalty points to pay for it ) and then on to Boots, to get Mr Goldie's Aramis antiperspirant (his only luxury) and my moisturiser and some other toiletries. We used as many bonus point vouchers as possible to boost the loyalty points, as we both have cards.
We mooched in a couple of shops, picked up some nice sandwiches in M&S for lunch and then went home.
I enjoyed my sandwiches, but just feel really tired and a bit lightheaded, probably due do lack of sleep last night. I'm going to have a snooze now.
I feel a bit downhearted about this latest turn of events, just keep wondering how I would have managed if I hadn't been at home:(
Hope this won't happen often.
I had a letter from my consultant giving details of the blood tests that I need - hopefully the GP's surgery will be in touch soon.Early retired - 18th December 2014
