Nearly 2 million have signed the petition to call for a second referendum which surely shows a level of unrest regarding the outcome. Boris has been very subdued since his victory, which I find strange

I thought we had already democratically voted??? If we vote again then somene else can ask for another vote and so on and so on which would be ridiculous surely?

Oddly enough, I've also posted something similar on another thread. (prepping threads on OS)

I had noticed that reports were saying that Leave voters were more likely to be old or poorly educated, and as people in those categories often think that the establishment doesn't care about them, their Leave vote may have been, in some cases, an anti establishment vote, and not really about the EU

The demographics of the vote are very interesting. Even on MSE, I've noticed MFW has a more 'Remain' vibe, and OS has a more 'Leave' vibe.

Needless to say, my comments on the OS board have gone down like a lead balloon in some quarters - but I'm just putting forward a theory

think the leave vote was high in deprived areas with huge numbers of incomers and they saw these people having paid for homes straight away while their kids waited on long lists and will never reach the top. Also think the attacks in Germany/Austria scared people too.

I don't think a re-vote will happpen as there was no problem with the first and the turnout was the highest ever recorded and the majority high too based on previous elections.

Just because some people don't like the result why should they get to vote again?

Tell Nicola Sturgeon that - the Scottish Nationalists seem to keep wanting referendums until they get what they want! :rotfl:

Yeah, I'm not going in there - thats like jumping into a raging sea when there's a storm on. I regret I've ever posted anything about the referendum at all - luckily, I think its been forgotten by now, and certainly never got taken up the way your posts did

    Nope, I'm sayin' nowt _pale_

Yes, I'm staying away now. I enjoy debate and discussion and try to keep it polite and good humoured, but there was a passive aggressive vibe that I didn't like.

The poll is fascinating, and the totals are going up very quickly.

When I first looked at it, at around 5.45pm, the total of signatories was about 1,935,000 and it's 2,125,159 now. It'll certainly be interesting if the total exceeds the amount of the Brexit vote in the referendum.

But my conscience wouldn't allow me to sign the petition. I've criticised the Scottish Nationalists in the past for seeming to want referendums until they get the result they want, so I think it wouldn't be right to have another EU referendum. The result of the referendum wasn't what I wanted, but we have to accept it, and get on with it.

It certainly won't be boring, that's for sure

But it is 2 million worldwide not just UK citizens who were eligible to vote so it's not at all comparable - when you look up who actually signed only 300,00 are from the UK the rest are worldwide eg Australia, France etc unless I am mistaken??

Only British citizens and UK residents can create or sign a petition but on looking whose signed not many seem to be UK people expats?

I read today that people like Boris and other leading Brexiteers have now got themselves into a rather difficult situation. They didn't really expect to win and now that Cameron has resigned, one of them will need to take the role of actually leaving the EU, potentially breaking up the UK and dealing with the fallout until they get voted out in the next general election. The words 'poisoned chalice' have been mentioned more than once!

What a disappointing and frustrating mess :(

most of what we are hearing is just media talk; any petition even if it gets 50 million signatures cannot overturn a democratically won referendum and if it did there would be anarchy from those who voted leave as there is awful discontent in some deprived areas. if they see democracy turned on its head like any banana republic there will be trouble. From what I've heard the last few days walking around the stuff on the media is not what real people think at all.

if they don't want the job I'm sure Farage will step up to the plate.

He says about the petition: “. It’s not a game of the best of three.”

If the vote is overturned another will be instigated against that one and so on and so on.
