Pretty sure I saw A+ washing machines advertised during colour themed spending day in the region of £300.
I have never been able to bring myself to insure individual items like this.
Yes, that's a year's premium, although, to be fair, it has increased over the years as the appliance has aged. It's 10 years old now, so there must be a high chance of breakdown by now.misscousinitt wrote: »Hi Goldie
Just catching up.
Brill use of vouchers.
Sorry about your mouse problem. We are fortunate this year that having moved, the cat hasn't gone out to catch any mice or rats - she has a fondness of bringing live ones in and then we have to dispose of them (which is not pleasant).
I notice that it will be your one year anniversary of being retired soon - hasn't that flown by!
MCI
Hi, MCI:)
Yes, the year has flown past. this time last year retirement was in touching distance. I've no regrets about stopping work - every aspect of my life feels better now.Just catching up. A whole year has really flown as MissCousinitt says! That washing machine cover was really expensive - we paid that for 10 year cover on our dishwasher. We've had it 5 years and they have only been out once so we thought it was a 'good deal' as the call out was £70 and our policy covers us for parts as well.
Hope you get mice sorted soon, I remember a pest control friend of Mr Watty saying that they come inside at this time of year because it is so cold and wet outside so if you have them coming in, they will probably continue to do so (sorry) so worth leaving traps down.
Your dishwasher cover sounds very reasonable. I'd consider something like that, but I'm not going to saddle myself with one of those expensive yearly policies in future. I've learnt otherwise since 2006 when I bought that washing machine.
We've bought some filler to close up any holes we find in the loft. We're going to make it tough, even for the most determined mouse!Early retired - 18th December 2014

Next time, we're 'self insuring' - I think the only reason we kept paying for the policy every year was the superstition that it's go wrong the moment we stopped paying!
Hi Goldiegirl, quick hello from a newbie.
Love the phrase "self-insuring". Me and my mum always argue (gently) about this. She ensures everything individually when she buys it using the retailers policies which make my eyes water. I've never been able to bring myself to ensure anything.
I started reading about policies where you could ensure a whole group of appliances but I didn't act on it. I can't get over the feeling that my (very small) EF is my insurance...
Anyway, good luck with the mice and have great evening0 -
I love the self insuring too - and the Olympic Stadium tickets! I went to see a minor Olympics event there, but a year later there was an anniversary celebration, and me and my sister got tickets to that, it was brilliant - we saw Mo Farah, Usain Bolt and Jessica Ennis all on the one day. It can really be worth paying out big bucks to provide yourself with memories like that2023: the year I get to buy a car0

The event we're going to is billed as the Anniversary Games, so I think it must be an annual event. It's the last big event before the 2016 Olympics, so there should be some 'names' completing
I went to the dentists this morning. After having toothache a few months ago, which I ended up putting down to sinus problems, I was a bit concerned, but that part of my mouth was fine. I had an X ray, and it showed a hole in a tooth in a different part of my mouth. I've had to book in for a filling.I haven't got any toochache, but it's best to nip things in the bud, as they say. The appointment is Monday, so at least I'll get it over with asap.
I had my first ever neutral feedback on eBay. It was a jigsaw I sold nearly 2 months ago. The comment is good, but the 'dot' is neutral. I messaged the person (who was quite new to eBay) to ask if there was anything I could do to resolve any problem, and he messaged back to say that he thought neutral was 'like, good'
As it's only an isolated incident, I'm hoping that it won't put buyers off - but I thought this was a classic case of TSFE - Too Stupid For Ebay!Early retired - 18th December 2014

Hi, ATB
It's a coincidence that you mentioned Breaking Bad, as we finished that last episode yesterday.
I have to say, I completely loved it. The acting, from the whole cast was brilliant, and I could go from cheering Walt on, to hating him, to feeling sorry for him, all in one episode! I'll have to give the dvd's back to my friend, but I think we'll buy it for ourselves at some point in the future, as we are both keen to watch again. I think there's probably things we missed first time round, and we'll appreciate the nuances more next time.
On the subject of eBay, it's been a bizarre day. I'm not doing much at all at the moment on eBay, but today I've managed to sell a calendar to someone in the Phillipines who wanted various quotes for postage before he paid, then after he paid he had a list of requirements regarding how he wanted it packed. I've also just had a 'case' opened, somebody saying that they haven't received a jigsaw I posted at the end of November. What with the neutral feedback the other day, things have gone downhill fast on eBay!Early retired - 18th December 2014

We are big BB fans too, I completely loved Jessie! Our WM broke today and when I rang about repair the policy was about £180 for the year! We have a second hand one arriving later (only 6 months old amd from a friend so will be reliable). I just couldn't justify the cost. Hope you get a bit longer out of your WM though.June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0

It's lucky that you've managed to source a replacement machine. Our WM squeaks on certain programmes, but I'm hoping it'll have a few more months of life in it!
Oh, I love Jesse - I want to adopt him! :rotfl:
We put our Christmas decorations up today - it looks very festiveEarly retired - 18th December 2014

I went back to the dentist yesterday to have the filling done, so that's out of the way.
We did the weekly shopping this morning. As I still have lots of Nectar points, we used points, so that was a 'free' weeks shopping.
Prior to watching Breaking Bad, we've never really been in to boxed sets. But as the experience was positive, we've invested in the box set of Game of Thrones series 1 - 4. We watched the first series when we had Sky, but I think we were on holiday when the second series started, and we never got back in to it.
The idea is, if we love it and will watch again, we'll keep the DVD's. Otherwise, if we only like it, we'll sell the DVD's after watching and recoup some of our money.Early retired - 18th December 2014

I love boxed sets, especially for series that I really love - the audio commentaries, deleted scenes, all sorts of stuff! Currently got Buffy Season 3 to watch, and Babylon 5 season 1, with the lovely late Michael O'Hare. I'll go up to £5 for a box set2023: the year I get to buy a car0
