I'm very glad you got it all sorted, Goldie!

For an hour or two yesterday afternoon, I thought I was never going to be able to talk to you all again!!!

Now we've got the modem downstairs, it seems the signal strength upstairs is sporadic. It's not a relaxing surfing experience on the laptop, that's for sure.

we normally keep the laptop upstairs, as it's out of the way, but for the time being we'll have to bring it down stairs we want to use it - I normally find eBay listing works best on the laptop. But ultimately, I think we'll need to get our computer man in to set up another extension network, as this is most effiecient way for us.

As it's sunny, we're going out for a walk now.

I'm on the laptop - at the dining room table. Love it, I don't feel out on a limb, tucked away upstairs!

Love that you are still with us. Tilly is right - :) - Virtual family :)
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!

Here we are, Christmas Eve afternoon

In the olden days, when I worked full time, this was my favourite time of the whole Christmas period. We'd finish work at 1 o'clock, so I'd be home now, with the feeling that the whole of the Christmas break was stretching ahead of me.

I have to admit, it feels different now.

Last year, I stopped work just before Christmas, so I'd had the lead up to Christmas in the office, and listening to all the Christmas songs on the radio. Then we went away for Christmas week, on a little cruise.

So this is what I class as my first retired Christmas, and because we are home all the time, I think that real sense of anticipation has disappeared.

I'm enjoying looking at my Christmas tree and cards, and we'll be having a lovely lunch tomorrow.

But, maybe, just a bit of the old excitement isn't there.

I think next year, we'll make more of an effort to do something 'festive' in the run up to Christmas, maybe a visit to a Christmas market or a Carol concert.

But, looking positively, we're home, happy, comfortable and secure. I think that's a good place to be

Merry Christmas everyone - hope it's a good one for you and yours:beer:

That's a good point - once you don't have the external structure like a job, you have to make it yourself, just a bit of forward planning really - I remember you doing some of that for after one of the big cruises you've got planned, so you don't feel flat afterwards? Same thing.

For my Christmases, I'm always at my mum's, and I'm not there this year only because of the energy/illness issues. So next year, I'll be up there well before the Christmas rush starts, and only come back south again when everyone's gone back to work! It'll be really something.

Have a lovely time Goldie, focussing on the lunch tomorrow :)

Yes, we've got our cruises to look forward to, and have booked a few outings for when we come back, so we won't be flat.

As I'd always anticipated the Christmas break so much, it never occurred to me that it'd feel different once we were home all the time:rotfl:

But we are going to open the wine box soon, and watch the live Sound of Music that we've recorded, so it should be a nice evening :)

Next year, you'll be enjoying one of the big advantages of retirement - doing things when it's not busy, such as your travelling. Very wise!

  • You may have lost a little of the anticipation by not being at work, but I know what I would prefer! Enjoy the break, and I am glad we didn't lose you from our family!

Still thrifty though, after all these years:D

    :rotfl:that's true - I think it's the first time I've missed work !

I've worked out something else that's missing - sausage rolls. We decided to do without, as they are high in salt. But now I've had a glass of wine I have a savoury craving. I have some M&S salt free crisps, so they should do the trick!
