theres a time and a place, i believe odean was showing it before shrek 3? and other kids films, think its inappropriate for an upsetting add (any ad) to be shown before a kids comedy film
on the same level who would be happy with a child abuse charity asking for contributions just before shrek 3? we all want to stop child abuse? and everything possible should be done to stop it? and help those kids but there is a time and a place for things

Please note, it was Carlton the screen advertisers who put this advert into the advertising reel. It was not Odeon.

Odeon requested that Carlton remove it from the Shrek 3 due to complaints from customers.

They will show it with any film 12A and above.

Odeon wish to do their bit for this campain but not to the point of distressing younger kids.

I'm more concerned about the proliferation of public "information" (i.e. nanny state) films which have now spread from prime time commercial television to the movie house.

I went to the cinema the other night and sat through no fewer than 3 patronising short films from HM Government telling me I musn't do this, this or this.

Thank you, dear leaders, I bow down before you and pledge my obedience.

I pay good money to go to the cinema for my own pleasure, not so I can be spoken to like a naughty schoolboy by a bunch of politicians.

Goodness knows how many extra policemen could be put on the streets for what these adverts are costing the taxpayer.

    Hmmm,

What public information films make you feel like a naughty schoolboy?

Apparently the ad was saying Maddie was "snatched from her bed" and it was upsetting young children who were worried they may be snatched.

I don't think it should be shown to young audiences. It may well upset them and it is up to their parents whether they are told about Maddie or not. Secondly we do not know for sure that she was "snatched from her bed". She may well have wandered out to look for her parents and then something happened to her and thirdly I do not see the point of showing this in a cinema in Britain. Surely there cannot be anyone here who has not seen the story on the tv, in the papers, on the radio etc etc

Perhaps they others aren't as photogenic as little Maddie?

Nice. I can imagine telling distraught parents that no photos of their missing children aren't going to be shown as they are simply not photogenic enough.

    I agree with Becles.

I seen it before Shrek 3 and the mood in the cinema was certainly a very sombre one after that.

What struck me was the strange choice of words they used - it said something like "Maddie recently turned four, but her parents were not there to celebrate it with her - made it sound like the parents were the ones that had went missing rather than her.

    Very strange.

I think if it were my child missing and someone offered another possible way of raising publicity I would jump at the chance. I can understand parents not wanting their small children to hear about it in a way but the reality is this child is missing and if the ad pricks a concience or tells someone something they hadn't heard before ( like the eye difference) then I can't see why anyone sitting with their children safe beside them would begrudge these parents a lifeline?

I agree with you nearly rich and its a shame that others are more concerned with entertainment. As for being "sick" of seeing Maddie everywhere......well I'm speechless Not looking at this thread anymore, cant believe people can be so narrow minded, unfeeling and actually rather selfish.
