As another back-roomer there is nothing more satisfying than causing some annoyance via court wins etc and causing PPC's a level of work they may have been unprepared for .
However , POPLA and court is but an annoying itch to them, let's not kid ourselves it is anything more . Far greater and potentially damaging irritation will be caused by increasing the tiny proportion of tickets that get appealed to POPLA . For that reason this venture is to be supported if it achieves that goal by reaching a wider audience .
In my opinion discussions that we have had about how to reach that wider audience should be carried out on the forums , in my opinion social media could play a massive part .
So with that I'm with Bargepole , the question is irrelevant .

I think you miss the point Ivor, nobody is suggesting that no advice will be given on here. Basically it's something similar to prankster's ebook, it can be bought and it helps people formulate a defence in court. The same information is actually on here spread across thousands of threads, but it will take a hellish amount of research.

With this if someone has no inclination or no time to deal with trivial thing like this, then being offered a chance for it be gone for a small charge could be attractive for many.
When posting a parking issue on MSE do not reveal any information that may enable PPCs to identify you. They DO monitor the forum.
We don't need the following to help you.
Name, Address, PCN Number, Exact Date Of Incident, Date On Invoice, Reg Number, Vehicle Picture, The Time You Entered & Left Car Park, Or The Amount of Time You Overstayed.

I disagree that the actions taken by posters on this board are a mere itch. I've been threatened via email and phone by two PPCs - if we were such an irrelevance why would they do that ?

I've also not voted on this poll, because the question really misses the point of all this. ...

    (snipped)

... means, on a much wider basis, and reach out to motorists who never come on here.

So the answer is not Yes or No, it's N/A.

Thank you for providing a new (to me) latin tag.

I have signed up to Courtrserve, and may turn up at my local court, (Reading), if a hearing looks interesting.

However, my experience from my occasional attendance at Mags Court, (as an interested spectator), is that most of the people up before the Beak deserve everything they get.

I witnessed an RTA once. They prosecuted the wrong man, and I offered to be a witness for him. I turned up in court, he did not. Despite my best efforts, I even told the Mags the wrong man was in the dock, they believed the prosecuting solicitor, and pronounced an innocent man guilty.

If people cannot be arsed to defend themselves, let them face the consequences.

It's a numbers game that's all . Presently the proportion of tickets that get to POPLA is tiny .
I never said that the actions taken on the forums is a mere itch , but presently what it results in is . That proportion of tickets needs to be increased , that will have a massive effect and yes the forums will play a part , but 99% of those that get tickets don't visit forums .
You need to look at the bigger picture
  • My view is that the board must operate as before, and everyone is obliged as a matter of principle to direct people to the sticky threads and explain that people here will help and ensure that things get done.

However, as long as that is the case I have no problem in saying that if the poster finds it overwhelming, which they do, or feel they don't have the time, many are busy in their lives and don't want to spend a few hours dealing with what is likely to be a one time event, then providing a low cost service with a guarantee is a good compromise. I'd say that £16 works out as a less than minimum wage trade for the buyer, who really would otherwise be spending hours plus the anxiety.

So, if we can agree a convention, perhaps a template post clearly stating that DIY is free, these are the steps via the sticky thread, but this scheme is available, then I think it is meeting a need of enquirers here.

Thinking of this, perhaps this is the solution for all those "Didn't you read the sticky/don't bite the newbies threads". If the first post is the template then they are going to answer those parts helpfully rather than being irritated.

    Absolutely!

    This has been a good lively debate, but it's such a pity the poll question is so one-sided;

Should New Members Be Charged For Having Their PCN Dealt With By Members?

I support the venture by KIFL & 4CR but there is no way I could answer yes to that poll question, so in my opinion the outcome of the poll is meaningless.

I wonder how many people voted based on the question options, without first reading the discussion?

The poll question is not one sided, it only requires a yes or a no.

However it is flawed in that it only applies to new members. Many people who fall foul of PPCs may have been members for years, I joined MSE (under another name) many years ago, but, until my wife collected a couple of tickets a couple of years ago, I was totally ignorant of contract law.

Why should I be exempt from paying for this service, which, should I be in Spain at the time, and my broadband is poor there, I would certainly use.
