Frinky-are you sure that the price difference isn't just one being quoted with and one without VAT?

Why not just ring them up?

I rang their freephone number 0800 5999440 this afternoon and it was answered after a few minutes.

I didn't switch via the CEC.

They give a £60/year discount for communicating by email rather than phone. I don't want to ring them and give them an excuse to charge me more.

These are the prices that were shown to me when I did a comparison on Cheap Energy Club...

Standing charges: 56.0595 pence/day
Electricity unit charge: 12.6840 pence/kwh
Gas unit charge: 3.6750 pence/kwh

These prices include VAT. I have a screenshot of my comparison from the CEC showing these prices, but the forum wouldn't allow me to post the link because I have a low post count.

Here are the new charges from my Ovo welcome letter...

Electricity standing charge: £0.2740 per day
Gas standing charge: £0.2599 per day
Electricity unit charge: £0.1208 per kwh
Gas unit charge: £0.0350 per kwh

These prices exclude VAT, so I'll add together the standing charges, and add VAT to those figures...

Standing charges: £0.6408
Electricity unit charge: £0.14496 per kwh
Gas unit charge: £0.042 per kwh

Assuming my sums are correct, there is quite a hefty difference between what the CEC showed me and what I signed up to, and the figures from Ovo.

It's 5% VAT not 20%

Use 5% and the figures add up correctly to what you were quoted.

So 3.5p plus VAT is 3.675p etc.

I can't believe I didn't know the VAT rate on energy was 5% :rotfl:

So apart from the address issue, it looks like all is well.

Had my initial email from OVO on 29th March; phoned them that morning because they didn't have the address correct.
Haven't heard anything since -no letter or further emails - anyone else experiencing delays like this??

Have you had an email or letter confirming your switch date? If so, there is no delay, and you should be switching around the end of April.
What does the status indicator say in your Ovo online account?

Haven't had any letters at all -I phoned the day I received the first email (29th March) and nothing at all since -think I'll have to phone them first thing tomorrow morning when hopefully no queues!!! No account number/user ID on the email so I guess I need the letter to set up online access anyway. I'll lay odds that the delay is due to the full address being truncated by Simply Switch!!

The Ovo ID is on the letter. That will enable you to register for the online account.
