Thanks, Craig, for your offer. The staff at Milton Keynes branch listened to my problems and were incredibly helpful. They did everything within their power to assist. It's clear that they are battling against the same system as the customer. The system invents large repetitive time-consuming tasks for them and I deeply sympathize with their frustration and difficulty in keeping the customer happy while following the instructions of their superiors in London.

The guy on the phone at the call centre in Scotland kept apologizing during the call for the script he had to read out and the questions he had to ask. As he said - "I know what your answers to these questions are going to be from what you've told me already, but I've got to ask you them anyway. I'm really sorry". He had been turned into an automaton by the process and he was having to do the same to us.

If you can feed these comments back to the designers of the system I'd be most grateful, though.

No problem and thanks for getting back to me. I'll pass on your feedback on the process.

    Have a lovely evening,

    Craig

Thought you would be interested in my wife's experience in trying to open a club account. The long running saga went something like this.
    1. opened an account at the end of April. Gave details of the 2 direct debits that were to be transferred from her HSBC account
    2. next communication was a letter from The Halifax where she has another account to say that Lloyds had requested to transfer her Halifax account to Lloyds. She had never mentioned the Halifax

    3. Lloyds insistent that it was a system error and that they were not looking to transfer her account from Halifax
    4. In the following weeks received a letter from HSBC saying that they were having difficulties organising the 2 direct debits from the Halifax (wife had given details for the HSBC direct debits)
    5. Lloyds transfer team never never returned calls. Letter written to Branch advisor no response
    6. Letter to Branch Manager, response the following day, gave the 2 direct debit details to be taken from HSBC again and assured that everything will be sorted
    7. 3 days later received letter from Lloyds confirming that they were arranging to transfer ALL 7 direct debits from HSBC
    8. Wife contacts HSBC and they confirm that they have a request for all direct debits to be transferred AND for the account to be transferred as well. Where did that come from???
    9. Wife goes into branch, the advisor she spoke to after a 30 minutes wait appeared more concerned about whether or not she had received any compensation. I think what she really wants is not to still have problems on an account that she opened in April. Assured that it would be sorted, to be on the safe side she told HSBC not to transfer her account.
    10. Looks like she wasn't the only one with problems, there was also a man waiting who had deposited £6K into his club account and for the past 2 months they had been charging him overdraft charges on the money. Hope he gets it sorted out quicker than my wife.
I also have a Lloyds account and it gives one very little confidence in the bank when a. They can't follow simple instructions given both verbally and in writing and b. Appear to make up totally different instructions to follow.

Oh, as a side note my wife asked for the name of the person who had communicated the account transfer with HSBC, as one might expect in covering their backsides this was refused.

    Thanks Craig

Yes my wife did make a complaint in the form of a letter to the Branch Manager. She was also told that the branch was making a complaint about the lack of responsiveness by the transfer team.

Hopefully all is sorted now, but then we thought that before.

    Fingers crossed

Ok, thanks for getting back to me. As you say, hopefully it's all sorted out now. If there are further problems though, your wife can use the complaints process or form I've linked to in my last post.

    Thanks,

  • Hi,

Apologies if these questions have already been answered but I'd be very grateful if someone could help to clarify - or the Lloyds rep on here?

Have just opened the Club Account - can the direct debits be just for small amounts to savings accounts - like a Tesco Savings and one other - will this satisfy the terms? My main DDs are currently on another account. (I have Tesco - pls can anyone suggest another which has the DD facility?)

Can the £1,500 be transferred INTERNALLY from another Lloyds account or must it come from another EXTERNAL account?

I have the 3 Vantage accounts where the interest rate has just dropped - are these worth keeping now - just wondered what others are doing? It seems that even at 1.5% they are worth hanging on to to keep any smaller amounts in.

    Many thx in advance.

Have you exploited all the other 3 and 5% current accounts? Even if you have, there are normal savings account that beat 1.5%.

What do you mean by "smaller amounts"? You get 0% interest up to £999, and a slightly less terrible 0.5% for £1,000 - £2,999. There are a few places that would pay worse interest but literally dozens that pay more. I wouldn't keep a penny in a Lloyds Vantage now.

Answers to your other questions in the thread.
  • Hi,

    Many thanks for the replies.

Yes I have opened the other better paying accounts but haven't yet fully filled them to capacity. I will be concentrating on filling these higher paying ones up first (TSB, Santander, FlexDirect etc) and then I thought it would be worthwhileto keep the 3 old Lloyds Vantage ones if I ever have any excess monies to put in there to be at least earning 1.5% at some stage in the future.

I see the Lloyds rep above in this thread has confirmed that the £1500 credit can be anything, i.e. cash, salary, pension etc., but he hasn't specifically said if a transfer from another Lloyds account will suffice - pls does anyone know this for certain?

    Many thx.

He's stated they do qualify in another thread...

...but I and many more have been funding via internal transfers since Vantage and Club launch, so there's your secondary confirmation.

What is worth it about a 1.5% current account that requires you to deposit £1,500 a month and to have 2 monthly DDs?
