I'd leave opening the Lloyds account until the middle of next week, considering everything is based on renewing "the first working day of each month", you don't want to be stung with a £5 for not putting £1500 in there this month.
They've already (kindly!) thought of that. The £5 fee is waived for the first billing period, according to the account T&Cs.

How nice of them, they don't waive the interest as well do they to make up for it? :)

My present concern: will the direct debits transfer to the new account soon enough for the collection dates in April?

Capital One: Statement produced 7th April, Collection due 19th

Capital One should do - I changed the account for my Capital One account today, and it's showing in the online area that my next payment (9th April) will be taken from the new account.

Time will tell if this actually happens...

    Halifax is easy...no chance!
That's a shame. I'm in pretty much the same situation as Milarky and have already changed the DD details online. I can wait a month if needs be, but do you know if Halifax will still be able to take a payment under the old DD mandate, or will I have to pay off the card myself?

I'm using Tesco as my other one.

if you are worried about timings for moving existing dd's from other accounts for payments (as i always try to move just after they have been taken) you may want to look at this thread, as you could always set up dd's from certain savings accounts.

Are you saying i could set up 2 Direct Debits from any (or some) of those accounts listed in the link you supplied and they would count as my 2 DD's. ie. i would be paying myself via DD?

My interpretation would be that 2 dds from tesco should be ok. I can't see anything in the t&cs about dds from a single institution being a no-no. To be on the safe side I would make them for different amounts because then there is no way anyone can say they are not different.

Hi carpy. The two Direct Debits can be to the same recipient, however, they must appear as two separate Direct Debit mandates on your account.

For example, if you have two Direct Debits set up to pay the same recipient (i.e. one for insurance and one for a credit card), that would meet the criteria providing they're both paid in a calendar month. However, if you have one Direct Debit to a company that's paid twice a month then that would not meet the qualification criteria.

    Hope this helps.
