:T:T:T MY MUMMY IS ARRIVING TODAY!!! :T:T:T
    Whoop Whoop!
Good Morning all.... so I finally bought a bus ticket for the week this morning - a whopping great £13 for 6 days. It was put in the strangest sticky back paper holder and is about 30cm in length - proper archaic. But it beats walking...

So I have a full day at work focusing on [STRIKE]doing nothing[/STRIKE] really important things, then Mumsy arrives whereby I "might" have to situate myself inside a cafe for an hour although there is a stronger chance of me wandering the shops tutting at how expensive things are.

You will be proud of me - "misplaced" my mascara on Saturday. Been going without since. I am SO attached to long extra black lashes so now you know just how serious this money saving business is for me - MORE IMPORTANT THAN LASHES!

Anyway... I am going to list my spends. Having to confess makes things more real...

    So far for April ...
    1. £13.15 at Wagamamas yesterday. I stupidly ordered noodles with egg - held my nose and ate it anyway. Treat to kick of the month sat on the Southbank in London.
    2. £2.90 on the bus (yesterday).
    3. £2.70 on a pint of pepsi ( ) at a friends leaving do. I have to invest here as she is going to Thailand on Saturday for a few years and I will meet here there in November - and since she will have a villa with her boyfriend might be a place to stay.
    4. £13 on the bus this morning for 6 days.
    5. £9.99 in Sainsburys this morning for breakfast stuff for the next two weeks at least.
    6. £2.39 at the weird local store for gherkins and a pepsi...:T:T:T
Ok I shan't be annoying you with this much information on a regular basis and I can see the need to gloss over it...

The local shop was right beside my new Dr Surgery where I went for my NHS injections last night - Typhoid / Dyptheria / Polio / Tetanus / Hep A and Hep B - which was the weirdest little place for a surgery. I got the feeling I might end up in a bath tub of ice with only a phone to call an ambulance and stitching where my lung used to be...

But alas - I survived and treated myself to the aforementioned gherkins and drink having pushed my way passed a group of hoody-hoodlums, screaming children, bull mastiffs and a few drunks - no joke. I was amazed how many people were hanging around this time little area... no one gave me grief by the way.. I am surprised though just how close this little council estate is to my house.

It was such a beautiful area with an open playing field and reams of cherry blossoms and it made me think of how much this is real life - how much I really dislike the pretentiousness of the place I am living in at the moment and would prefer a bedsit in an area with character...

Sorry that was long winded......... but it also made me think about becoming a money mentor. There is a strong chance that the people I would come into contact with would not be as easy going and lovely as you folk - and what would happen if I need to assist someone who is serious debt, with a few kids, no qualifications etc.... It's something I need to think about a lot - and whether I am cut out for it.

Thrifty - I hope the baby starts feeding well soon.

SiannieLaz - my DD started with tantrums at 18 months old and they carried on for years. They were quite awesome to watch and the tiniest thing set her off and she could keep one tantrum going for an hour and be barely able to breathe.

Clocked up my first SFD yesterday, I am hoping for another today but DH is off work until Tuesday now. He fell off his bike on Monday evening and is battered and bruised all over, I am really cross with him as he went out on my very fast (and quite pricey) road bike with no helmet, I have told him loads of times not to but he is a grown up and should know better, he has also bashed up my beloved bike and broken the back brake:mad:. At least he isn't seriously injured though.

Please count me in this months challenge, have been lurking for many months but not really posting, sorry about that.

Really need to knuckle down with the challenge this week as I have literally nothing to live on this month due to overspending and cannot keep dipping more and more into my overdraft, it is not my money to spend!

    April 1st- NSD

April 2nd- small spend of £2 on food but this was just change I found knocking around my bag, so bank balance has not gone down as a result.

I am determined to not take any money out for the rest of the week as have plenty of food in the house. The only spend I need is to send a load of letters and a parcel away tomorrow. Most of these letters are sending off receipts etc for “try me free” product offers so hopefully a few little cheques winging their way to me soon. Every little helps…. This is going to me my motto this week. Both for outgoings and ingoing’s. It’s all those silly little unnecessary spends that have got me in this mess!

Decluttered three items today as they sold on FB - hopefully more to follow! I'm going to post them on my way out so happy to count them in the decluttering pile.

I have £48 sitting in Paypal just now which is more than enough to take to the craft fair next weekend. Some of that balance will reduce with postage costs, but I'm still pleased with it :D

Dolly are you serious - he went out without a helmet?? I would spank his behind for that and banish him to the sofa for damaging your bike. My brother butchered my Kona ( mountain bike ) when I left for Uni.

It was so expensive and a gift from my Dad and 4-5 years later it's still in bits. I am so annoyed with him still so I know how you feel...

But you OH without a helmet??.. tell him he's a VERY NAUGHTY BOY!!! ;-)

  • Hello NSK and everyone! I hope I am not late to be added in the list as I want to go back on track!
Yay, I have the power, you have the power, we have the power, power has been given to us for free so we might as well tap in it and use it!!

I wish all of you all the best for April!
    Updates from me!

    Yesterday tasks!:

I went to the bank to negotiate a BTL remortgage rate because its fixed rate expires the end of June! I pass the first stage of their lending criteria and the remortgage rate they are offering me is %2 less than the current rate, no fees, so I think is a great deal! I still need to see their other advisor and pass the second stage though, nonetheless I am certain I will pass the second stage!

Next, I went to see my MSc supervisor for the first time at the university! Ufff it was a great meeting! He liked my research topic!
    After that meeting,
I went to see some rooms to hire where I can set up my business! My web site is coming on..so all in all ..I seem to be advancing!

I am afraid, I am not saving that much that is why I need to keep track of my expenditure due to incurring expenses as a result of studying and setting up my own business.

    Regards,
    No debts 🙌
  • Hope I'm not too late to join? I have been AWOL this past week or so sorry! But want to get back on track for April. Want to get saving for my summer holidays and for school uniforms etc. So my aims for April are:

    Save £300
Spend cash only - no using my card!
Grocery budget for the month £260
Misc budget for the month £80

    Will think of more.
Didn't get a SFD yest as went to ikea and got my littley a new matteress as she is moving from cot to toddler bed. Also got a new stair gate for her door so no escaping during the night.
Should be SFD today as going to sort out the toddler bed etc.

I will get a chance to read the thread later sorry if iv missed anything important. Congrats to thrifty on the new baby xx

Hi Kat: I briefly worked for the Citizen's Advice Bureau in a "backroom" role. As it was 1980's we're talking updating paper files and the like. One of the training topics was "what do you do if the client smells". :o
Anyroad, the situation was that, whatever the decisions the person had made in the past or whether they were wearing clean clothes, when they turned up, it was your responsibility to advise them.
Here on MSE, we're all singing from the same hymn sheet and no, it isn't going to be easy; surely there will be advice and training to help you put away the job when you leave the building?

    Debt-free and Proud!
    Hello!
I've been cleaning this morning and DH has been cleaning the cars. The CC is well and truly frozen! Anyone else get a buzz making payments and seeing the balance fall?
