You're so right about that! :rotfl: Now my husband works from home, he only shaves about once a week, and gets his hair every 4-5 months or so.

My hair desperately needs coloured, I'm building myself up to it! I've had the hair dye for ages now, but I can't get myself motivated to do it, even though it really needs a refresh. My hair is a couple of inches below my shoulders too, and I'm contemplating getting it cut short(er), but I'm that used to my security blanket of long hair!

My husband gets out of the shower gets dressed walks downstairs and his hairs dry!!!! So unfair.:)

I'm 40-something, and a devout longhair. It was below brastrap length with the first child (so I wore it up in a clip, or in a braid to tickle him with) & just less fuss to deal with, so I went on letting it grow.
Properly looked after, you can do loads more with long hair, but if you want a bob - give it a swing! Just it may come as a heck of a shock.
Hoping you like the "new you" and at least it can grow back if you change your mind!

lol ^^^^^^^^^^^^ a woman I used to work for thought this, so she had a very very short cut, left her hair about an inch on top. She saved loadsamoney by going to a 'barber' for this and then ..........dyed it purple! she looked amazing, in a good way! and she was in her fifties.

I certainly didnt wake up on my 40th birthday thinking holy !!!!, Im middle aged, time to get the scissors to my hair.

I think whats lacking in some people is self awareness. There will be 20 and 30 year olds who dont suit long hair and have it. Theres just this accepted notion that women over 40 shouldnt have long hair because they are too old for it.

Which I think is a load of old crock personally. I think people who do have a bit of self awareness know what suits them and know what doesnt and as such will know when its time to give their hair the chop.

Not because they are 41 or 42 or 43 and so on.

Absolutely agree Pauline! Actually, you look lovely if that's you on the profile pic :) Jane Seymour had (still has I think) long hair and she is way past mid 40s. And she looks amazing.

I actually knew this woman at work once (she was 33, me 29,) and she had a frumpy 'deidre barlow in the mid 80s) look, and my hair was long (about 14-15" below my earlobes,) and she said 'you're 30 next month; time to lose that long hair.' She basically thought that a woman should not have long hair past 30! :rotfl:

Depends on the woman, and what shape face she has etc. I do not suit long hair now (I am 50) but I have it just touching my shoulders; like this length:

In fact that is almost my style. :)

There are many woman 45-ish and over with longer hair: they look fab. :) Not VERY long though, but up to about 3.5-4.5 inches below the shoulders I think. :)

Look at Julia Roberts though! :D

I guess also, it depends on how you present yourself and how nice the hair is kept. I mean, it not EVERY middle aged woman and older suits long hair.

but, some of us don't suit short hair cuts. short hair doesn't suit me, its never suited me. - I look awful with short hair. and that's not just my opinion - my SIL is a hairdresser and also lectures at a local college, and even she says to never go short. my 'updo' suits me. so sorry, but my hair will NOT get above shoulder length no matter what my age.

When i was a teenager i had very short hair and loved it, all my friends had long hair and used to take hours to get ready, leaving me bored waiting for them. I remember having my first short haircut at age 10, sat in the hairdressers for 2 hours with my stepmum, going in with hair i could sit on and coming out with the ultra trendy Purdy cut:rotfl:

At college, me and my best friend were the only ones on our course with long straight hair (Rock Chicks!), everyone else had a perm....we called them the sheep, because they all just copied each other. We used to laugh, and say that we'd be old women with long grey hairl and everyone else would have a purple rinsed perm! :rotfl:

When I was little, my Mam always got my hair cut short, and I mean short! Once when I grew it abit, she took me down and got it cut into a bob....I hated that damn bob, it never curled under properly, but would curl up instead. :(

Short hair doesn't suit my mum. She looks younger now at 60 with long hair than she did at 40 with short hair!

She has her hair cut and dyed by a hairdresser. It's thick and shiny. She has it loose and doesn't tie it back like I used to with my long hair.

A long bob would suit her too, but her hair still looks lovely long.
