Actually, thinking about it, I don't mind bobbed hair if it's very short (and a bit choppy/layered) at the back and dramatically longer at the front. If I was going to cut my hair that's what I'd go for.Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)
December £361.54, November £322.28, October £288.52, September £374.30, August £223.95, July £71.45, June £251.22, May£119.33, April £236.24, March £106.74, Feb £40.99, Jan £98.54) Total for 2017 - £2,495.100 -
Absolutely agree Pauline! Actually, you look lovely if that's you on the profile pic
Jane Seymour had (still has I think) long hair and she is way past mid 40s. And she looks amazing.
I actually knew this woman at work once (she was 33, me 29,) and she had a frumpy 'deidre barlow in the mid 80s) look, and my hair was long (about 14-15" below my earlobes,) and she said 'you're 30 next month; time to lose that long hair.' She basically thought that a woman should not have long hair past 30! :rotfl:
Depends on the woman, and what shape face she has etc. I do not suit long hair now (I am 50) but I have it just touching my shoulders; like this length:
In fact that is almost my style.
There are many woman 45-ish and over with longer hair: they look fab.Not VERY long though, but up to about 3.5-4.5 inches below the shoulders I think.
Look at Julia Roberts though!
I guess also, it depends on how you present yourself and how nice the hair is kept. I mean, it not EVERY middle aged woman and older suits long hair.
It is me in the profile pic, ta very much.
Yeah I think Julia Roberts looks good with long hair. I think Sandra Bullock still has long hair and shes 49.
If I had straight hair I dare say Id probably have experimented with more hairstyles over the years, but I havent and I didnt so thats fair enough.0 -
My hair is waist length and dyed dark red with layers through it, and I'm 34. I love my hair, it's the only thing I really like about myself (short, fat, and plain). Why on earth would I chop it off just because I'm not a teenager anymore?

When I was a teenager, I would have killed for Sandie Shaw's hairstyle but as mine was wavy, it wasn't to be as I wasn't up to ironing it! I had waist length hair up to the age of 28 and since then have had mainly shoulderish length hair, sometimes with layers and sometimes a bob. I do like to be able to tie it back at work and on holiday so it needs to be long enough for that so a shorter bob is not really practical, although I seem to suit it. At the age of 61, my hair is below shoulder length and I'm just letting it grow until I want a change again. I do have to have a fringe though (my botox!) I'm lucky in that my hair, although fine is very plentiful so I really think that it does depend on what kind of hair you have that can dictate a good style. I do know someone a bit older than me who has never changed her style from waist length. She has got a lot of grey in it and I think it really ages her as she just wears it down. I am lucky in that I don't seem to have any grey hairs yet.0

Be happy you aren't in North Korea. Just 18 approved styles for women and now only the "Chinese Smuggler" for men.

The point is, everyone is unique. Its a bit of a ridiculous generalisation to say once you get to a certain age, cut your hair.
Some people will look good with long hair well into their 40s and beyond. Other people wont.
It should be a personal decision and one dictated by how you feel about your own looks, not by other people.
I have a friend who is in her 40s who has spent most of her life with it in a bob or just past her shoulders and she's recently grown it longer and she looks great, she has lovely hair.0 -
My SIL just turned 40 and she has gorgeous long hair, just under the bra line. If it still looks good, why cut it just because of a birthday? I regret cutting mine now, so I'm frantically trying to get it to grow.0

I'm in my 50's and my hair is waist length. It's thick but straight and as I don't dye it there's a big white wing in the front a la Morticia. I usually plait it and roll it into a bun at the nape of my neck during the day, it's tidy and stays out the way. At night I sleep with it in a plait so it doesn't end up as felt or under my armpits. I don't wear it down much but can manage half a dozen different updos with it if I feel like a change or want to be smarter. Why on earth would I want to cut it? It's a lot easier too look after than having to style a bob every day, it's cheap to maintain in that it just needs an inch trimmed off it now and again and I can style it in far more ways than a bob.
Yes I agree, some long hair doesn't look that nice but that's nothing to do with age, it's because folk don't know how to look after it to keep it glossy and healthy and only know two styles, loose or ponytail. My gran had hair down to below her hips, snow white and fabulous even in her 80's, she used to wear it in braids wrapped round her head. It looked much better than the usual blue rinse perm that other old ladies had. Who says your hair length has anything to do with age?Val.0 -

I must have missed that memo somewhere along the way
Maybe its time for me to break out the hush puppies and horlicks
I have to say, I dont think long hair = youth anyway. I would probably look younger with short hair than the hairstyle I have at the moment.0
