My hair is waist length and dyed dark red with layers through it, and I'm 34. I love my hair, it's the only thing I really like about myself (short, fat, and plain). Why on earth would I chop it off just because I'm not a teenager anymore?

Because it is the responsibility of women 'of age' to ensure that no unsuspecting man (or woman) should accidentally find them momentarily attractive by mistaking them for someone much younger and then suffer the emotional trauma of finding out they aren't (young that is, not attractive.)

Now if we could all wear Hush Puppies and a cardy that would help too, hell, lets go the whole hog and ring a bell ;)
    Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)

    December £361.54, November £322.28, October £288.52, September £374.30, August £223.95, July £71.45, June £251.22, May£119.33, April £236.24, March £106.74, Feb £40.99, Jan £98.54) Total for 2017 - £2,495.10

    Ha, thats hilarious.

My pet hate on hair is people who have really dark hair who dye it with a home dye kit (badly) and end up with their hair looking a similar colour to a satsuma. Or people who over straighten their hair and the ends look like they are breaking in 12.

Long hair on women in their 30s and over is really way down the bad hair scheme of things in my opinion.

I dont know how you laydees can honestly think that the cousin Itt look is good for the more mature.

It all totally depends on the invidual. Some people look young for their age, and can therefore get away with it, and on others, a short hair cut takes years off them. You can't generalise that everyone over a certain age looks bad with long hair.

I know certain people who for a long time had short hair and that aged them, they ended up looking more like their Mam! When they then grew it, it took literally years off them, and IMO looked a lot better.

Who gives 2 hoots what anyone thinks you should or shouldn't have hair wise.
I am 37 and have long hair, it is in lovely condition, I can tie it up during the day and let it down when going out for the evening.
The key, I feel is to make sure it is styled, a few layers can make the difference between witches hair and lovely locks.
Also older ladies always look better with their hair pulled away from the face be it tucked behind the ears or partially tied back, try it, it will take years off you.

I'm far too lazy and tight to spend lots of time and money on my bl00dy hair. It's a long wild tangled mess like Tina Turner. I spend about 5 minutes a day brushing it and then I either leave it down or put it in a pony tail. It looks OK short but costs a fortune in hair cuts. If I have a bob then unless I spend hours blow-drying it straight it just bushes out. So I let it grow as long as it can and get it trimmed about twice a year - the weight keeps it slightly under control.

All you lot talking about styling must have far too much time and money on your hands...

I get my hair cut and coloured at a local college for a tenner, certainly don't have too much money, if only.

I cut my own hair, as it's thick and wavy I don't need to worry about perfectly straight edges, I never straighten it either its so bad for your hair.
I tie mine in big ponytail at the front of my head and cut into it rather than straight across, this gives lovely layers when released.
I've been doing it for years and always get compliments.
if you have thick wavy hair you need length to weigh it down otherwise you end up with frizz.

Well i started something here didn't i....thankyou though as it has given me a different perspective on things. I am going to go for the chop but not because of the 'age issue' but for a change of image, it is only hair and will grow back if i'm not comfortable with it.

Poppie - discuss with your hairdresser how different styles and lengths would look on you. most of them have a very good idea of how to style to suit your face shape, head shape and body shape (surprisingly that should be taken into consideration too) and your age.

I'm about to turn 47 and my hair's the longest it's been since my mid-teens. Inching down towards bra-strap (not quickly enough for me). I'm looking forward to being grey or white instead of blonde too - sadly no greys yet. Bring it on! I love the witchy look and don't like the helmet-head you often see on middle-aged women; I think that's really ageing. I'm going to grow it as long as it will go. It's starting to become a pain to sleep on but when it gets too bad, it'll be hairnets for me. Don't care what anyone else thinks :)
