I have the bad luck to live 500 yards from one of only two Virgin Active gyms in the country that do not count as part of Pru health's Vitality scheme, so have to pay the full amount for membership despite being a member of Pru health (through work).

I've spoken to Pru about this, and they've never really given me a satisfactory answer as to why they can't give me reduced membership, so I'm stuck paying £42 a month regardless of the fact that I visit the gym four times a week. :(

on a seperate note, this new website is rubbish! on the old one, my fitbug points showed up on the same day/day after... On this one, it's been about 2 weeks and they're still not up. Anybody else had this problem?

do you not have any other partner gyms near you like LA Fitness or Cannons?
  • Thanks for the advice about the fitness assessments. I have come to the decision that I will be happy getting gold status by November 1st as I will be on 1350 at end of August and could only get 650 points by getting the 60 points from reading articles, 300 by going to gym maximum amount of times and on top of that getting a flu jab and paying for a basic health screening...so considering it is only £14 a month difference (£15 v £29) and I would have to pay £25 for the health test anyway I decided that it is not worth the effort and I will just sensibly work my way up to platinum in my own time.

New question! Is your gym pricing still only changed every three months or will it change as soon as you reach platinum?

It'll change in the month after you reach Platinum. There won't be anything done quarterly any more :)

The new website is lousier than a colony of woodlice.
I can't even query my points at the moment because that part of the website is down.
Good to hear that I'm not the only one who has a problem with Fitbug tracking.
I have had a close look at my vitality statement and it now appears that buying Sporting Goods from eBay comes under the "Exercise" category. My delight at bagging myself 40 points just for buying an exercise top has been short-lived. Presumably it will only contribute to the 150 points for gym membership that I use up every month anyway.
On another matter, did anyone else see a message when the new website started promising 100 points for a Vitality Review? I filled the damn thing in despite the website crashing on me every few minutes but it's not shown in the points.
    Regards

  • Ok I booked my very first fitness assesment at LA Fitness this morning for Sunday. The guy I spoke to implied that in addition to the 300 points just for doing it they also awarded points for being in a certain BMI/fitness/etc banding.

I thought that the very first one you only got the 300 points and for the second and subsequent assesments you got 300 points plus points for maintaining/improving BMI etc.

Can someone clarify this for me?

Also, do I need a pre-authorisation from Pru for the fitness assesment and is it a good idea to get a copy of the results for myself??

Yes, its lousy!! The only thing I can do is see my vitality points statement. I did a Vitality review on the launch of the new site but it gave me 0 points as I'd already done one back in January.

Unfotunately not. The next nearest is also a Virgin Active but it's a 20 minute car ride away. I could join, but it's the convenience of my closest one that keeps me going. If I had to drive there, I know I wouldn't go nearly as often.

  • Found from this website: http://www.pruhealth.co.uk/insurance/vitality/vitality_partners/polar
"You can earn up to 10 points a day and 150 points a month for any combination of gym, Fitbug or Polar Computer activities"
So Fitbug is included in the 150 points.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!
