PruHealth signed up to a five year deal with the gyms that officially finishes October 2009 I think. But I think you'd be fairly safe in assuming that the present deal will continue for longer than that.... :)

Basically virtually all Virgin Active, LA Fitness and Cannons (Nuffield) gyms participate.

They've changed the deal a bit, but they're still giving (greatly) discounted gym membership. The amount you now pay for the gym is now determined by your 'Vitality Status'. If you have 1000 points you are at Silver status, 1500 Gold, etc. You collect points by doing healthy activities. The better your status, the cheaper the membership (it can be free outside M25).

It's all a bit complicated so maybe have a read of the website. Also PMISpecialist who often posts here sells the insurance and I 100% reccommend him to help you get your head around it and buy it. IMHO it's still a great deal :T
  • I dealt with PMI too - recommend also a great service.

Additionally I'd suggest anyone considering signing up should purchase a Fitbug for £15 as a points back-up. It's a nice user-friendly piece of kit and Pru award your points within 1 day of uploading results.

Yep -another thumbs up for PMI from me.

Also - agree, get a fitbug. By using it, you can get to silver before joining the gym, and the fact they are giving you points still for both fitbug and gym visits, getting to Platinum is twice as easy. My wife and me joined the gym start of Dec when on silver and we only joined Pru mid November. I am 3 days (60 points) away from getting Platinum in record time, cannot believe I achieved it so quickly.

Just received a quote from PruHealth regarding insurance. Is my quoted price inclusive of gym membership or does it just give me a discount?

It says that I will receive a first year discount of 25% because of my lifestyle. Does the discount increase with the amount I go to the gym?

    Any help would be appreciated.

I signed up to this about a year ago. You pay your normal health insurance fee and how much you pay for the gym depends on how often you go. You get points for going to to gym and if you go at least 3 times a week you don't pay anything else. If you go less than this then you pay something like £10 a month extra. The Pru website also have various other things you can do to get more points, so save more money.

When I joined I went through Topcash back and earnt myself £155 and when I cancelled my policy 6 months later I recieved £150 from Pru (no idea why) which meant I had recieved free health insurance and gym for that time.

I dont think Topcash back do it now, but it would be worth checking the other cashback sites like Quidco to see what you could get.

Does anyone know if the Mark Warner 40% discount for Platinum members will apply to last minute special offer bookings?

    Thanks

With the new scheme I dont think you need to visit the gym 3 times a week to get it for free. Unless anyone can state otherwise. Been a gym member for 6 weeks now, and not had any penalty, and me and the missus tend to go approx twice a week.

Mind you, we do have fitbugs aswell.

Also interested in the reply to the question ref Mark Warner holidays.

Scott, you are right - there is no direct link now between number of gym attendances and whether you qualify for the lowest available gym fees. The gym fees are now entirely calculated based on your Vitality status.
