I phoned up today on the landline number, and asked to be put through to car insurance. I was asked when renewal was due and replied in October, so I was them advised to use the online system. I queried that I wanted the points and was told they would be added by using the online method. I have done this and was given a reasonable quote, but unsure if I will get the points creditted. I have e mailed Tesco to query this and await their reply.

I wonder if we'll actually get these points.....

After all, they're probably gonna get 1.3 million phone calls when the newsletter goes out....
  • Phew! Got my points in the end! I really think it depends on who you speak to. I tried the freephone numbers (two in fact) and had no joy there as they couldn't transfer me.

Then I rang the 0113 number and, despite saying that I knew about the 500 Clubcard points, she still started to do the quote. She took my name, address (wanted a phone number, which I declined), date of birth and Clubcard number. When I told her my insurance wasn't due to October, she said that they couldn't quote and I'd have to call back nearer the time. I asked if I would still get my points and she said... no!

Not one to be put off, I told her that I "knew" someone else (i.e. you lovely lot on this forum!) who had been given points even though they hadn't been quoted. She said that she couldn't give me the points but maybe an offer would be running later in the year when my insurance was due. I protested again... she asked me to hold while she checked with someone else... came back... and GAVE ME THE POINTS! Hurray!

Not only that but she said they'd go on my card as soon as possible so I may not have to wait until November to check it. I could even phone the Clubcard Helpline (which is a freephone number found on the back of the card) just before the offer ends and see if they've been put on. If they haven't, I can try again.

So, the call took about 9 minutes and wasn't as easy as it's been for some people but still worth it!

The moral of the story... DON'T GIVE UP TOO EASILY... BE PERSISTENT!

    Thanks, Martin and Crabman :j

P.S. In 20 minutes, I've made £35! £20 from the Clubcard points and £15 vouchers from a supermarket! Whilst enjoying a late lunch, I found a large piece of plastic in a food item and they offered them to replace the item and as a goodwill gesture. (And before anyone asks, I'm not going to tell you what supermarket/food as I'm sure it's a one-off). Anyway, off to the supermarket now to show them the evidence... ;)

Called the 0113 number and asked for a Car Insurance Quote.

Held on for a while, and when I got through, I told them that the renewal was late August.

Told to ring back when within 30 days... what about me points, I asked!!

They then took my details, and said the point will be awarded :)
