Just rang to be told can't have a quote because I asked about the clubcard points.

    Their loss!

phoned first time, staff was not willing to give the points or quote until I recieved the renewal letter from my current provider. Phoned again 5 minutes later, spoke to someone else. Success!. I was given the 500 points without the need for a quote because they were far too busy.

    Thanks MSE.

Waited about 10 minutes for someone to take my call. Mentioned the 500 points offer and was told I could have the points just for phoning and that I did not have to have an insurance quote if I didn't want one! Great if I do actually get the points in November - must remember to check my statement. But if I don't get them I have absolutely no comeback as I have no proof that I phoned up for a quote.
  • I have just spoken to someone at the tesco car insurance call centre and she was happy to give me the points without even taking my details for a quote. Brilliant! I am already a customer and have two cars insured with tesco. This time I lied saying I needed a new quote for our third car - a convertible to be used for the rest of the summer.

I did try the 0113 number first and got nowhere so had no option but to call the other 0845 option direct to the insurance call centre.

Many insurance companies charge a fee for any amendments.
Before going with any company ask what the fee is.
I used to be with the AA. I cant remember what the fee was exactly but I do remember it was extortionate.
Last year I got a much better quote from Saga and their amendment fee is far more reasonable.
If you are likely to change cars during the insured perid
    make alterations to the car,
    change address
It would be wise to calculate the amendment fees into the quote.

I think insurance companies should make their amendment fees more visible

totally agree with you Vinyl..................just changed my car froma Skoda (old, old old skoda ;) ) to a not so old (still 9 years old  ) Seat and the brokers charges were higher than the insurance companies

Anyway, this is a great post, just rang and the guy on the phone was really nice and said that as their northern call centre was out of action due to flooding they would not be able to give me a quote, but heres the points anyway!!:T

Poor souls seem to have been inundated and they guy i spoke to was doing 12 hour shifts so they can cope with the number of incoming calls!!

Just phoned and said used to be with them saw leaflet in store about points and wanted a quote for mid Aug.

The reason why they are only doing quotes for 30 days is due to the volume of calls and also flood damage to their office so they are running on limited resources, they did advise theat web site still giving 90 days quotes plus 15% n line discount.

Anyhow no quote but 500 points nice one Martin

Total time of call 3 mins so now is a good time to call
  • just phoned for quote (used 0113 number, got thru to switchboard and asked for ins quote). got extra 5% because clubcard holder but it was still £131 dearer than existing insurance company
  • Well, I just got off the phone after approx 50 seconds. Got told that they couldn't quote me because my insurance wasn't due for renewal for quite a few months.
And then I was offered the clubcard points anyway!

Yippee, less than a minutes phoning for £20 in clubcard points! My OH has just done the same thing - and she actually wanted insurance! She was just offered the points and no quote.

I've just hung up the phone, took about 2 mins to get through to someone. I asked about the offer and he said "do you just want the points?". I said yes, he took my card details, job done!
