Are you upset that you wanted to argue with me but just reinforced what I was saying? Thanks for the honestjohn link (the one that says its impractical) and story about how your wife finds it impractical by the way.:j
I'm not upset at all.
Just find it very amusing that all your prejudices and stereotypical views have now been knocked back to you replying "well the boot lip is too high". :rotfl:0 -
Strider590 wrote: »So we've established why the OP bought this car?
What I don't understand is why then did they need to drop the brand/model and price into their first post? None of that information had any relevance to the post.
Could just have easily said "we paid 2k too much, what can we do?".
The online equivalent of putting your keys on the bar for all to see when you buy drinks at the pub.
Because it brought out people like you who have a chip on their shoulder??
Do you put your home made car keys on the pub bar? :rotfl:0 -

Absolute rubbish. The majority of posters who don't mention make and model in their posts get shouted at for not telling us. Seems OPs can't win whichever way they choose to do it.
You've got a thing against BMWs and their drivers, we get that but at least TRY to hide it when posting or why bother replying at all?0 -
He did say that. So did the op. So did honestjohn. So do i....
Practicality is relative. It has more bootspace than a Focus, so i'd say thats more than enough.
Besides, who ever said absolute practicality was high on the O/P's priority list?
My wifes z4 has a tiny boot when the metal roof is down but practicality was about number 472 on her list of priorities.
Which rattles you more by the way, the fact its a BMW or the fact that someone can buy a £43K car?
Either way, probably more a reflection on you and your life, than the O/Ps.0 -
Uh-huh, so given you've never owned one to comment - you have prejudices, not experiences. :rotfl:
Ive owned two cars in my life. I own none right now. Doesnt mean im not sat in a car as i type this. The current car im sat in has a three point propeller at the front not a blue one. But if i go home then i can get into a car that does. So you assuming im jealous of, or against a certain brand is laughable.
But to put this to bed complete the following: The X6 is such a good design that the following brands have copied and/or have comparable competive vehicles:........
ps. Have a quick google on how to multiquote.0 -

There's still some speculation on whether Merc'll be badging theirs the MLC or GLS, I believe, but it's likely to be facing the Audi Q6 in showrooms in 18mo or so. Then there's the Infiniti FX/QX70, which hugely predates the X6, although Infiniti's almost invisible in Europe.
And there's a very strong argument to point at the Rangie Sport, of course.0 -

Range rover sport was first. And not a cross over coupe. So not comparable.
mlc or gls and a 6. Where can i buy one of those right now?
the infiniti, again point taken not that popular here(yet, they seem to be launching) but not coupe enough to be comparable.0 -

But they can't buy a 43k car, they had to finance it.
I could afford around £600 a month, what does that "buy" me on finance?
Quite frankly I see no appeal whatsoever in buying such a vehicle, my life does not revolve around what other people think. I'll keep my daily barge and i'll keep my Kitcar and i'll keep myself out of pointless debt.
Your seeing this from the point of view of someone who would go out and pay silly money for a car just to "show off", your insistent that it makes people jealous, but the ruthless thruth is that most people just don't care. What does grate on our nerves is stupid people acting all high and mighty just because they've got all this fancy gear and 20 credit cards.
I don't blame you, it's not your fault, you've just been pulled into that British social class way of thinking, this idea that material possesions can buy social class.
I grew up in a 5 bedroomed home, on 4 acres of land, I spent a lot of time around truly loaded people and half of them drove 10+ year old battered saloon cars, but then had something "nice" in the garage for weekends.
I then moved to a small village where the people had little money, but spent every penny on fancy cars to stick on the drive. I've seen this false class system for what it really is and i'm not getting dragged into debt just to be a part of that.
So yeah, proclaim jealousy and "chips on shoulder", the only chip on my shoulder is the one directed toward this system of consumerism fueled debt.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Pity all that time around truly loaded people didn't teach you anything about money then, as you clearly have no idea about finance if you believe any borrowing must be bad. Did you finance your "small village" house, or doesn't that count as finance?0 -

How do you know they cant? And if its a PCP scheme, then they have the option to buy at the end of it.Strider590 wrote: »

Whatever you like. If you did though, i personally wouldnt give a stuff.Strider590 wrote: »

And thats your perrogative. A home made car would hold no appeal whatsoever for me or my wife, but thats your choice not mine.Strider590 wrote: »

And neither does most peoples. I suspect the O/P doesnt give a monkeys what other people think. And i know my wife doesnt give a monkeys what other people think.
Typically, anyone i know buys the car they want because they want it. I cant honestly think of anyone i know who buys a car to impress other people.
If some of your friends do, then i suggest you must be associating yourself with some very shallow people.Strider590 wrote: »

Thats your perrogative. Doesnt make anyone elses decisisons wrong. But you seem to think it does?Strider590 wrote: »

No. I've never said that. I've said people buy the car that impresses them, not one that impresses others.
"showing off" would be zooming off from the Traffic Light Grand Prix, to try to prove some feeble point.Strider590 wrote: »

I'm not insistent it makes people jealous. Its merely my observation that on this thread it has brought out some very dubious comments from certain individuals. I am not alone in thinking that.Strider590 wrote: »

Again, if you are associating yourself with people who do that, then maybe you need to look at yourself and your social circle.Strider590 wrote: »

I drive a golf diesel.
I dont care about social class. I have no desire to socialise with anyone other than my loved ones and closest friends.Strider590 wrote: »

Yes, and thats their choice. I have previously been doing that. Before the golf i'd a Fiat Marea 1.9 JTD, but had a Jag XJ for the weekends. I only got rid of the Fiat because the floorpan rotted out of it. The golf is 2012, but i plan on running it to 250,000 miles.
My wife buys new, changes her car every three years, buys the car she wants. Shes got a great job, 500 people under her, and gets paid very well for it, including a generous car allowance. Loves a nice car. She can well afford the payments, so why not?
I have, in the past had some fairly heavy duty cars which i've had on finance. It suited me at the time. Now it suits me not to. On the lookout for "something for the weekend" though.
Those decisions were right for me at the time. However i dont pour scorn on others for them having a different opinion than mine.Strider590 wrote: »

Again, quite sad. I have no reason to believe however, that that is how the O/P lives, but you seem to be clumping them in to your "world view"Strider590 wrote: »

Really? Because you've come across on this thread with your mate as people who cant stand it when people have something nicer than they do.
Fair play to the O/P. Sounds like they've got the car THEY want.
Health and strength to enjoy it, i say :beer:0
