BMW charging me more than advertised

Hi, I put £500 deposit down on a BMW X6 yesterday, accepted for finance and I have signed the paperwork but I didn't get a copy, they told me it comes in the post! This is the 1st car I have ever bought on finance, it is a pcp deal through BMW finance.
Now we got the car for £42995, went home and last night we looked on the approved Bmw website for the car which is coming from a different site and it is marked up at £40995, £2000 cheaper than what we have paid!

Is there anything I can do now? Is there any laws etc that I can use to my advantage?
We are happy with the finance payments etc but I don't want to pay £2000 more for a car than what it's marked up at? Knowing they make a good profit even at that price

Have you asked the dealer you are buying from the reason for the price difference? Surely that would be your first point of call?

I hate sneaky car salesmen and car dealers and all that fluff, but you were happy with the "deal" when you signed the paperwork, end of story tbh.

You buy a £42k car, one that has no practical use...

Surely the purpose is to make people think your loaded and now your complaining about paying £2000 too much?

If you can't afford it, you shouldn't buy it.

    Have a nice day :)

You clearly thought £43k was a good price for that particular age/model/spec of car, based on your research before agreeing to pay it. How come that research didn't flag the £41k ad up then?

Are you trading a car in? They could be quoting you retail price against your trade in.

Are you sure its the same car, given its on a different site?

If so, then ring the dealer and express your concerns. There could be a valid reason for it.

As my wife has said of her BMW, she buys a car because it impresses her - if it happens to !!!! people like you off, its just an added bonus.

Clearly not an affordability issue, but no point in paying more than you have to?

Even a millionaire turns the lights off every night in their house, so if you're in the realms of buying £40K+ cars, theres no reason not to be ensuring you're getting the best deal?

    I'm sure they will.

I know i have been any time i've been cruising about in a top end BMW

Perhaps someone will let you sit in theirs so you can know how good it feels?

Could have had the price drop on the day they were viewing it?

Happened to me - i found a very nice 535d BMW in a main dealers, down from £26,995 to £24,995. Thought i'd ring to arrange to view on the monday. Turns out i didnt get the chance. Rang them on the Tuesday and the sales guy i usually dealt with told me the sales manager had just dropped the price a further £2000 so got it for £22,995

Had i walked in on the monday, that deal might not have been on the table.

Could easily be that - especially if the dealer advertising it isn't the one where it was transferred for viewing - or if it was bought blind.
  • I didn't say I couldn't afford it, we are happy with the finance payments! I just don't like the thought of paying 2k over the listed price, the cars are all around the same price for the spec & year (4 months old) and we have got a good deal at the price we paid but I just don't see why they are selling it at 2k more.

The car is on the dealer group website at the higher price but advertised on BMW website at the lower price. Yes we traded a car in and got £20k for it, so that has gone into the deal.

I don't see how it being an impractical car in top gears opinion who spend a whole show crashing cars, and pointlessly driving round in 10 year old trucks is relevant to my question.

We both have good jobs & have always had bmw's, it is nothing to do with showing off to people coz I couldn't care less what other people think, we like our cars and this one suits us and our family so if we can afford it why can't we spend our money on what we want!

I was purely asking on a 'false advertising' aspect

Thank you for those with sensible answers! My partner has rang the garage and we are waiting for the salesman to get back to us

The explanation that Motorguy gave in post 5 is the most likely reason I would have thought. Last time I bought a car from a main dealer with p/ex it was exactly the same. The full price and not the web price with the balance adjusted on the p/ex value.

Moving it from one dealership to another will incur costs. There is also trade in to consider. They may have offered you a more generous amount than the other dealer would have. The finance rate may be slightly better too. That loss may not be as much as £2k at all.
