What does it matter to you?
For kick off, they're a good sized four seater which is two seats more than my wifes car, so i'd say that shows practicality.
I dont think too many people take them off road, in the same way as not too many people drive Ferraris on a race track.
The slowest x6 cracks 0-60MPH in 7.3s and goes on to 138MPH.
The fastest diesel one cracks 0-60MPH in 6.3s and tops out at 147MPH
The fastest x6 has lapped the Nordschleife in 8 minutes 24 (Faster than an Evo VII)

Dont think they can handle? Here a vid of one being chased by an M3...

Nope. Its called "knowing what you're talking about". You should work on it before spouting cliches and generalities about a car you clearly no nothing about.
Its no poor substitute. It gets 4/5 on honest john

and 4/5 on What Car?

It drives as well if not better than an X5, and having bought one of those new, i can assure you that is exceptionally well.
Granted, its looks arent to everyones tastes, but fair play to BMW for making something thats not just another bland EuroBox.0 -
Forgive me, because I know very little about PCP but surely the list price doesn't matter? You make monthly payments for the car and then decide at the end whether to buy it or not? (Most people just hand them back), with that in mind on a 5 year PCP agreement, this would only add a few quid to the monthly cost of the car?
Apologies if I have got things totally wrong, but since you are leasing it, and not actually dumping £42k in cash on the table, i'm not sure it makes that big a difference over the course of a (for example) 3 year PCP agreement?0 -

No not leasing, PX £20k and finance for the rest. So £2k makes a difference.
I'm in the middle on this, on the one hand you should know the going price for a car that you are going to buy. At BMW Audi and Merc you will have the choice of several vehicles of similar spec and you'll compare price, mileage, options and age to decide which represents your best option. By going for Dec 2012 rather than March 2013 saved us £1500. Will that make any difference when we come to sell and our personalised plate (nothing fancy) will go on there soon anyway.
On the other hand, companies shouldn't have a screen price and then sell at a different price just because they think they've got a soft touch.0 -

As Ian has said, yes it does make a difference in a PCP contract.
Think of it as an HP finance agreement but instead of paying large monthly payments you offset an agreed value to the end.
£2000 over 36 months could mean paying an extra £50 a month.
With leasing, it doesnt matter as you're effectively just renting it and handing it back.0 -
Gotcha
Thanks for clearing that up in my head!!

Who would of thought I'd of caused such a reaction ha
Not relevant to my question in any way but we test drive plenty of cars and the x6 was the one we liked the best.
We have traded in a M3 coupe, one of the fastest cars on the road and as we have 2 children I'm sure many people would say that was 'impractical' to, no rear doors and everything about the car is expensive, tyres, tax, petrol, insurance and only does 18mpg on a good day the list goes on but we had it 3 years and it has been the best car we have ever had! It has been on many journeys including centre parks, complete with 2 children, all luggage and childs bike in boot and still did 0-60 in 4.8 seconds so 99% of the time if we wanted to we could beat any car off the lights!
The x6 still does it in 6.5 seconds which I think is very respectable for its size, has the added extra of 3 rear seats and we don't need the head room as there will only be a 7 & 5 year old in the back. It may not be the best 4x4, but it doesn't feel like a truck to drive either, my neighbour has a range rover and he has never been off road in his life!
Yes I'm sure we could of bought ourselves a Ford Mondeo or similar and paid cash, but we didn't want one of them so each to their own, we both work hard for our money and are car people so we got what we wanted!
We looked at similar spec cars and the garage had one that was a few months older for the same price but it had just been sold. So I don't think we have been 'ripped off'. £42 was still a good price, I was just a bit shocked when we went online to look at some photos and it was £2k cheaper!
Anyway, we spoke to the business manager who gave the usual salesman baffling talk, basically they are saying they had to pay the other branch £42k for the car, not sure if that is how it works when they are part of the same 'group' but that was his story he didn't really explain why it was showing on bmw approved used website for £2k less, and they had to transport it from London to North east and it was here by 12 on Tuesday, we only reserved it at 3pm on the Monday!
They wouldn't budge on the price but we did get free servicing for 5 years, which I'm sure is worth a fair chunk of money.
We had a good look around the car and it is spotless, 1 previous owner is the other dealership and we were told it was used by the manager.
We collect the car on Friday and all in we are happy with the car, the payments etc and we will be saving money on our running costs compared to the M3.
Thanks for everyone's reply!0 -

I know exactly what im talking about. Not cliches. For example: tried putting 150quids worth of shopping in a x5 boot? Or 5 series(any shape)? Not too bad eh? X6? Not practical. Reveiws or other wise.:rotfl:
ps that honestjohn reveiw states its impractical in the second sentance on the reveiw. Thanks for backing my point with evidence other than ancidotal.0 -

Soon as I saw you'd mentioned "X6", I was waiting for it, tbh. I think you might need to get used to it...Anyway, we spoke to the business manager who gave the usual salesman baffling talk, basically they are saying they had to pay the other branch £42k for the car, not sure if that is how it works when they are part of the same 'group'
They'll be part of the same group, but they'll each do their own accounting separately, so it does make a lot of sense - although I'm sure full retail won't have been the recharge value between the two...0 -
Our X6 has 3 rear seats and the boot is plenty big enough for anything we will be putting in it, though I must admit I may need to stand on a box to get that rouge tin of beans that has rolled to the back.
We test drove a new 535d which was very nice but being only 29 I though it looked to much of a sensible 'old mans' business man looking car which isn't what we wanted.0
