Good luck with the new job. Looks like you're decluttering jobs as well as stuff.

I hope it all goes well for you.

  • Okay, I am officially a little piglet. Mince pies (a pack of 6 this week so far!), chocs at work, cake and now liquer chocolates. Hic.

Another Christmas do to go before the real thing too! I feel very very stuffed.

The good news is that's its been very MSE :rotfl:

Just updated my actual totals in my siggie. Was £5 better :) so balance owed is £9495 - nice to be the lower £9ks. This will break into £8s next month.

The car will break into the £9s next month :)

So happy, definitely on track for the debt neutral figure this year :)

Thanks for listening to my ramblings about DHs spendings. Reading Benjamin Frys Spendaholics - behind every overspend is an overspender - whether it's for yourself or for others - I need to be strong As I give in far too easily. And that makes no-one happy.

Hope everyone is having a good week and that you aren't looking as much like a Christmas pudding as I am :rotfl:

ps Ooh don't forget the student loan - oh yes I am now a student. Must get my discount card sorted :)

And also have a couple of services to pay soon. Brand new job, brand new year.

  • I went into the Halifax on Friday to see if I can close my FFREESS account to gain £100. Sadly it doesn't apply. I'm really not sure about closing down my Barclays account as Ive had it for so long and I certainly don't want to close down my Santiander ac as I like the interest and cashback on my direct debits. Decisions decisions. At the very least I need to stop the £25 I pay to Barclays so need to make sure I perhaps change to an account with all the insurances I need. Need to make a decision over Xmas as £25 a month is a lot. Nervous about closing my £1750 overdraft, but I know I should do it - although I'll be happier once I've started my new job.

When I was in the Halifax I saw they do a loan which can be repaid without penalty - a Clarity loan at 4.8%, but then read something that said 9.8%. Hmm, my CCs are only 6.8%, I wonder if it would be worth consolidating to a loan. It would have to be a lower rate though than 6.8. Bet I'd get offered 9.8 - may be worth a try? Going to have a look on moneyadvice to see.

I have not heard of Benjamin Fry's Spendaholics, I must have a wee nosey over to Amazon. I love your new signature.

I am trying to imagine what a cross between a christmas pudding and a piglet looks like! You certainly sound good enough to eat:rotfl:.

I keep meaning to make mince pies with mums sugar pastry recipe but if I do I will eat them. The pickled onions for Christmas are nearly gone.

Sounds like you have had a good week so far. Keep on nibbling.

Hey SS! This is super late, but remember when you're taking the Mr out on a groupon trip, you can get cashback on the groupon!

Where can you watch spendaholics? have you seen the channel 5 programme (something like Hey you big spender, spendaholics uncovered), it's mental! And on 5od.

The discount card is great, I got £10 off a £50 meal yesterday :) Plus, I get discounts on movies and bowling. Remember to get the app, it doesn't tell you all of the discounts, but it does give you a lot. So my favourite "useful" discounts are with superdrug (they're strict) and the co-op.

    Toodles.

Thanks Peaty. Spendaholics was about tackling someone's overspending both physically and mentally. It was fascinating when Benjamin Fry tackled the psychological reasons and the book makes great sense. I'll try channel 5 though. Xx
