Ugt I HATE work expenses. Why won't they pay it? I think work get so much out of you nevermind taking your money as well!!!
To make you feel better...when I was really bad with my money, in my crazy debt days, I had 4.8k on a monthly charge card that I left too long to claim. My work always let you claim after months but I had put it on a corporate charge card (as my credit cards were maxed out) came off the card after 45 days and I had a maxed out overdraft and not claimed the expenses. NIGHTMARE. The corporate card gave me a warning that if it happened again the would suspend my account (I spun a story that my manager had not signed it off). That is how bad I was.
I now claim expenses INSTANTLY. The same day I get back to work. Sometimes I book something and then claim it as soon as I have the email showing the price. My new job is going to have expenses so I need to be ON TOP of my game!
Slippery slope even for those who are debt free! Lets hope if its coming out of his allowance he will be more savvy in future!

Hi Supersaver,
It sounds like you have got a good system going with DH, that actually works pretty well, he is just testing the boundaries. Now is the time to stand firm and show him that they are made of steel and not elastic:rotfl:.
I test DH's boundaries regularly, because he is the one, in our house, who is the better saver and planner, and I am grateful that he has stood firm over the years otherwise we would be in a far worse position than we are now. PSSSSSSSSSST, don't tell him I said that x.Training Loan - £1300.00/£1,500 (13%), Halifax CC 300.00/£925.00 (31%), OS Weight loss 7.0lb/24lb (29%), Extra inc Nov £220, Dec £532.00, Jan Ex Inc target £200.00. I too am having expenses 'fun'
If they had been signed off within a reasonable time of being submitted, I would have them today but no....I will have to wait until next week. For this reason the atmosphere here is not good (hence me being a bit 'mardy' yesterday SS!)
I have mentioned on my thread that I am using envelopes for my daily spends and I was intending that the envelopes would have money up until next payday. They didn't go this far this month because I paid two little debts and secretly bought some Christmas thingies (my critics do not know this.) Anyway, I was relying on timely expenses but I have been shafted again!! Shouldn't be a gambler
There is still a lot of tightening up to be done at Brogden Towers and gambling on cash flow should not be an option!

Aw, sorry to hear that Brogden. We are all learning this money game and trying to get on top of it. I think we are like you, spent in the good times and then it was difficult to put he brakes on - plus Mr SS has more tricks for spending than a magician. He's finding it hard so I've tried to ease him into it, but I'm not sure whether that will mean he won't learn how to be good with money. So he's being given a bit to play with and is finding it difficult. Aren't we all though. Hope you are okay, it was all in good spirits, wouldn't want to think I was adding to your woes? Everyone is really supportive on this wanna be debt free forum, I occasionally stray off thread and always come back really quick - it's like chicken soup for the overspenders soul.
Thanks Wf8. He's a good earner MrSS but a good spender too. I wish I'd put my foot down sooner. But you're right I need to stand firm. We're going nowhere except round in circles by spending willy nilly. I'm never sure why he wants to spend sometimes. For me it might be a decent coat that I will wear virtually every day for the next 10 years. But for him it's usually something that gives him pleasure for about 30 seconds - a night out or something that would cost the same as my item but over in a flash. We are going out with friends soon, but I don't mind the occasional night as those can be memorable. But a session with people you don't really know you can keep it. I always say if MrSS could put as much effort into supersave ing as he does into moaning about not spending we'd be millionaires (or something like that). Therefor I will hold my course and try not to let him grind me down as its for both of our good.
Veronica he spent something that someone said the company would pay for, then another boss got involved and said no. It's just his gun ho way of spending our money and then there being a problem with it. Yes he's paid it back from his own spends but he could have bought something for me with it. Not that I'm being selfish, but perhaps that's my problem - being unselfish. He used to drive everywhere for folk and say oh, I'll claim a bit extra back from work, but my point was, why not claim mileage back from work and then keep it for us and then we'll have more money for us. He's got a very odd way of looking at money, almost like it would burn a hole in his pocket. But he doesn't seem to consider that he is a family man and every penny should be for the family, not some random people for him to impress - and that his impressing other people is at the expense of our debts. And muggings is the one with sleepless nights over how to balance the books. Sorry rant over, goodness that was mad of you, not claiming that money. But similar to DH, he is almost Embarrassed about it. Me, when I'm sat enjoyeing the fruits of my labour couldn't give a dam about other people.
Doyouno I think that's the problem. To me his spending disrespects our relationship, whereas he thinks he provides and that's enough. I actually want him to be involved and try his best in every way to give us a good life, which means watchng every penny. I'm not sure how I get him to see that.
Sorry that wasn't rant over was it. Right off to do some cleaning. Need a good surface to keep my grip. Ss1k. Xx
ps, it really is that I don't just want him to provide, I want us to work together and for him to share the sleepless nights, the money saving and the pride in getting is out of this mess - and from that we could be sure he won't get us in the poo again. OSWL (start 13st) by 30Jun20 6/10

You're sensible in wanting him to man up and think about the way the income is spent rather than just 'providing' it. It isn't a lot to ask.
I think men either are or aren't on board with these things so it is very difficult to change them. Him is the opposite, and I control myself for the most part. Sometimes it is just as bad having someone who refuses point blank to spend on anything and looks down at you for buying an extra chocolate bar.
Of course him spends willy nilly on PS4 games, etc as thats something he is interested in. SO it is all swings and roundabouts. That always comes out of 'his' money which is everything he earns as I don't get any of it. I earn 5x what he does though :rotfl:

Ok called the garage re. The service today - apparently 700 miles is correct so I need to work out how long it will take to do that and book the service in Also did some washing today, took the bins & recycling out, got a bit of kindling, picked up some paper and called Vodafone. Not sure why I'm being charged so much, but on their advice I printed printed out the vodafone web chat and went into the store. The store told me that when I asked for my 10% employee discount that would have cancelled the 25% loyalty discount. Really! How dumb ! You can guess I'm not impressed. Especially when I was then sent away to call back to customer service. Will do that tomorrow.
I then went to Morrisons to get some Farey dishwash tabs it they were sold out again. I believe I've missed the 3 for £10 wines. Must get my act together. :rotfl:
I managed to make the return to the shop in town name then have been busy with DD this afternoon and evening. Had a lovely time and a productive time.OSWL (start 13st) by 30Jun20 6/10

Lots of time helping at school with the Christmas fair this weekend. Have been achey and energy less with a sore throat and headache. Seems to be clearing now, probably just in time for work tomorrow!
Dd had a longer shift yesterday as its Christmas, was a bit strange in an empty house. Is this what it will be like when she's off to uni. Made me think about that.
Then DH was really lovely and helpful last night. I think my moans maybe getting through. I'm also being supportive to him as I know he has a stressy job. We really have got to work together otherwise what's the point of being together - apart from financial reasons. Was a really lovely evening and it didn't take the spending of any money to make it that way. Result.
Today is about my coursework, housework and schoolwork. Too much work! Hope to get DD to come on a lovely walk as well.. Must think of something that's not work!
Hope everyone has a great weekend.OSWL (start 13st) by 30Jun20 6/10
